I've been a fan of the band for 20+ years but saw them live for the first time last night.

Wow! Just that :-D

Only down side was that the concert was standing only but even that had a positive - my 71 year old knees can still take it :-)

I remember seeing them at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1997 (blimey, tempus fugit) and being really impressed. I had assumed they'd split up after Simon Emmerson's untimely demise last year.

Glad to hear that they're still active. Johnny Kalsi is a complete star!

Listen to the whole of their OVA album by clicking here but my advice would be listen to track 4 N'Fali Foli first. To these ears that is the outstanding track.

Their stand-out performer and stand-out musician in undoubtedly their Guinean kora player and singer N'Faly Kouyaté. Here he is with his own band videoed at a stunning performance at Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2023.

We'll be seeing them at Musicport next weekend. Seen them several times over the years. Last time I was a bit disappointed but hoping this gig will be better despite the absence of their founder Simon Emerson who sadly passed away not too long ago

I don't have any previous gigs for comparison, Joe, but I don't think you will be disappointed if it is like the Manchester show.

I had to look them up on Wikipedia and from there went to YouTube. I have a playlist running now - thanks for posting this. I can hear the distinct instruments and styles but they don't clash, as different as they are. It does help that my computer speakers separate the channels so I can hear the musicians bouncing off each other.
