Shameless self-promotion now, eh Dick?

Give him a break. We encourage performers to announce their performances. And everybody knows that Sandman is Dick Miles. I've heard Dick sing. He's a good singer, and he has a vast knowledge of the songs he sings.

Why would anyone object to singers mentioning their own gigs on this forum? Promoting live events is one of its functions.

”Why would anyone object to singers mentioning their own gigs on this forum? Promoting live events is one of its functions.”

Absolutely no objection at all if it’s done honestly, i.e. by the person doing it in their real name, not a pseudonym. Otherwise, to my way of thinking, it seems a seedy, dishonest way of promoting one’s gigs.

Although many of us here know who ‘The Sandman’ is in The Real World, a casual reader may well not have that kind of inside knowledge. That’s all.

As always, the standard disclaimer applies - IMHO. However, I realise that YMMV, and I’m cool with that.

Then be upfront and honest - post in your own name.

Everyone by now should know who "Sandman" is...Even if it is the Third or Fourth name he has used here on Mudcat...
I see No reason why he should Not promote his own appearances here....What other National outlet does he have..??

I suspect that you are in a minority of one, BWM. I don't think The Sandman had any intention of deceiving anyone.

Hope it goes well, Dick.

We will have to agree to disagree, Doug. Being in a minority of one is not a problem for me, I’ve been there many times before. ;-)

Over and out.

I'm puzzled as to why anyone should object to the opening post for any reason at all. Maybe Dick owns the wrong kind of dog ;-) We lived in Loughton for eight years, Dick. Sadly, I won't make the gig as I can't do the 500-mile round trip. Enjoy anyway!

Just looked at the map to find Loughton Folk Club, to find that it's a three-minute walk from our old house in Smarts Lane! We left Loughton in 1986 and the folk club didn't happen until 2010. In another life, who knows... :-) As I said, enjoy.

Dick's booking at Loughton is on Hallowe'en so I hope the man will be brushing the sand off his spooky songs and ballads to make his programme seasonal. This morning I have been checking carefully on my Unquiet Grave, Faithful Johnny, The Cruel Sister and a few others for a programme we are doing around that date.
Where did you say?
I'm not telling you.
It's a secret.
I wouldn't want people turning up to hear us, would I?

Dick - my apologies, I've read and re-read the thread several times and given thought to everyone's POVs, and I can see that my original post, and those following, were quite wrong. No excuses from me, I got it wrong.

Pax?

Hi Vic, yes, I will Probably include some items connected with Halloween.
I generally like to have a listen to other singers and get the feel of the venue, before i decide on programme, but Tam Lin is a consideration, one I wont be doing is this, because i dont know it
