10 Jan 25 - 04:24 AM (#4215052) Subject: RE: Obit: Malcolm Storey From: Nick Dow Richard Spencer gave me this sad news yesterday. Mally and I had a lot of time for Malcolm, and I was pleased to spend time with him and Judy in Aberdeen a year or so ago. He was a man who spoke plainly and stuck to his guns. He was also reliable and supportive of the performers he valued. We will all miss him. RIP and thank you Malcolm. |

22 Jan 25 - 07:01 AM (#4215706) Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Malcolm Storey From: GUEST,henryp Malcolm, life was never boring with you! We will miss your reminiscences and old tapes at Whitby this year. Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Funny Songs about Aging From: GUEST, henryp Date: 22 Jul 22 - 07:12 AM Malcolm’s Story The funny thing about growing old, It’s not as funny as I was told But each day’s different, I’m pleased to say, And life's not boring in any way! Every morning when I awake, There’s a new place where I ache Then a lazy breakfast comes as a perk, Instead of that regular dash to work There’s one thing that’s better for us, We get our free pass for the bus And on our journey into town, We get reserved seats where we sit down I have a list of things to fix. Don’t get me started on politics! If I don’t like your point of view, Then I’m not wasting my time with you And though we see things through a haze, We hope we’ll still see happy days But each day’s different, I’m pleased to say, And life's not boring in any way! Malcolm, most of the words are your own! Tune; O’Carolan’s Fanny Power fits very well, though the first part may be enough. But I can see you doing it as a rap! Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Funny Songs about Aging From: GUEST, Malcolm Storey Date: 23 Jul 22 - 08:06 PM Not sure I have that much energy these days Henry. However I might be able to manage a Hitchcock type walk on in either the stage or film version! |

06 Feb 25 - 03:32 PM (#4216811) Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Malcolm Storey From: The Sandman Malcolm, along with two others, Graham Pirt and Ed Wilkinson rescued the Festival when EFDSS gave up running it. It was a long time ago and i apologise if i have the names wrong. But without Malcolm there would not be a festival now IMO |
06 Feb 25 - 03:48 PM (#4216812) Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Malcolm Storey From: Tattie Bogle By all accounts on Facebook, his funeral was a very fitting tribute to him, with lots of great singing, both in Selby Abbey, and afterwards at the Drax Community Centre. |
06 Feb 25 - 03:50 PM (#4216813) Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Malcolm Storey From: The Sandman My Apologies In 1982 Grahame Binless handed the festival over to Trevor Stone and Graham Pirt. It was almost due to finish, because of financial difficulties, and they managed to build it up over the next two years before they handed over to Malcolm Storey, Ed Jenkinson and Martin Bull. It was when Malcolm Storey resigned that Chris Sugden (Sid Kipper) and Graham Pirt called a meeting and they formed a committee that continues with different personel to this day. Malcolm, still played a very important role. |
07 Feb 25 - 02:22 AM (#4216831) Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Malcolm Storey From: Nick Dow Selby Abbey is a beautiful Abbey, with stunning stone masonry and carving. The service was very moving. The singing was exemplary. There was a who's who of the folk world, at the service and later at Drax, where we talked not only of Malcolm, but also of the future. It was of course sad to lose Malcolm, but heart-warming to see so many friends. If you believe Malcolm was watching and with us all, he would have enjoyed the day. RIP Malcolm. |
