Lyr Req: Driving Mary Home? / Bringing Mary Home

Hey! Does anyone know where I can get the words to the original "Driving Mary Home"? I heard it on the radio a couple of years ago but I was in the car and couldn't tape it to get them.

Ely, it is in Cowpie under the title 'Bringing Mary Home'.

Cheers, Stewie.

Type "Driving Mary Home" W/O quotes into the Digitrad and Forum Search box on the top left of the main page. That will bring you to a thread on this song from last October.

Well, I tried it myself & it didn't work to red hot. Just use "Mary Home" then click on the first entry. That should get you the thread Should.

It's Bringing Mary Home. Unless there's two different songs.

There's also a song from the early part of the century (oops--that's the last century now!) called Seeing Mary Home. Could that be the one you want? Sorry, I don't remember the words; I think I saw it in a how-to-play-the-guitar book.

The Cowpie site was easy and was the right song. It is Bringing Mary Home that I wanted. Thanks to all.

Do we have songwriter and copyright information on "Bringing Mary Home"?

In another thread, Stewie said there's a sequel:
It's called 'I've come to take you home' and is written by John Duffey and T.Michael Coleman. You will find it on the Seldom Scene's reunion album Seldom Scene 'Like We Used to Be' Sugar Hill SH CD 3822.
Anybody able to post the lyrics to the sequel?
-Joe Offer-
Damn. I see that Joe Offer posted the lyrics to the sequel in this thread. Glad I have an edit button to correct my mistakes...

The question remains: did Duffey write "Bringing Mary Home"?

I think it's "stepped up in my headlights"... and "I stopped and she got in back"...and "and we all miss her so"... But I could be wrong. In any case, as Jeri, suggests it's a great ghost story song.

I really liked the parody that kendall posted a while back.

I kept having the nagging feeling that I had recently posted “Bringing Mary Home” recently—not realizing that Midchuck had already posted it here many months before. I searched for the title but didn't come up with my post. I finally found it using the filter—I remembered that the word Halloween was in the tread title.

I think my post is identical to Midchuck's with the exception that I provided chord changes and and the melody in ABC notation.

I think the one from the early 20th century was Seeing Nellie Home

Seeing Nellie Home (in DT) is a different song, originally WHEN I SAW SWEET NELLIE HOME (1856) (in The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music).

Back in the 60's, I remember a sequel that is not the one Duffy sang. The song I remember was about the young man who had taken her on a date? or had he found her after she had been left by her date? Anyway, he was the one who was driving the car that wrecked and killed her.
Am I crazy or what?
