I'm trying to track down the earliest memories of "The Moose Song (aka I Love a Moose)".

When & where did you learn this song?

Any help is appreciated.

~

The usual chorus:
And it’s Moose, Moose, I like a Moose!
I’ve never had anything quite like a Moose,
I’ve had many lovers, my life has been loose,
But I’ve never had anything quite like a Moose!

I'll try posting various versions with specific dates. Using
Ed Cray's notes for his unpublished Erotic Muse III and
other sources, I'll post up variant versions.

Moose Song
----------

(chorus)
Moose, moose, I like a moose
I've never had anything quite like a moose
I've had many lovers, my life has been loose
But I've never had anything quite like a moose

1)
When I was younger I used to like girls
I fondled their bodies, I played with their curls
Till my wife run off with a salesman named Bruce
You never get treated this way by a moose

2)
I've done it with all kinds of beasties with hair
I'd do it it with snakes if their fangs weren't there
but it's just not the same when you pull the caboose
as the feeling you get when you're ramming a moose

3)
The people of old they had their icons
The Greeks, the Romans, the Amazons
Well, get away God, Allah, Buda and Zeus
I go on my knees for no one but a moose

4)
When I'm in the mood for a very fine lay
I go to the barn and I get me some hay
I go to the window and spread it around
For a moose always comes when there is hay on the ground

Oct 10, 1991. Posted by Stepan Riha to the rec.humor usenet group
He was looking for additional verses for the song as these four were
the only ones he knew.

MOOSE

When I'm in the mood for a very fine lay
I go to my closet and take out some hay
I open my window and spread it around
'Cause moose will come running when hay's on the ground

When I was a young man I used to love girls
I'd fondle their titties and play with their curls
But my wife went a left me for a lawyer named Bruce
You'll never get treated that way by a moose.

Moose, moose. How I love my moose.
Never had anything quite like a moose
I've had pussy that tight and pussy that's loose
But never a pussy as good as a moose.

Ooooooh and when I'm getting advanced in my years
I'll think of life but I'll shed me no tears
I'll sit by the fire with a glass of Mateus
Playing hide the salami with Marvin the moose.
Moose, moose. How I love my moose.

1986. "Moose" from What I Did on My Summer Vacation LP by John Valby.
No chorus but note the repeat of the "Moose, moose. How I love a
moose" line.

Another recording by John Valby on the 1999 CD Half Fuckin' in the Bag
is exactly the same except he changes the homosexual "playing hide
the salami with Marvin the moose" to "Mable the moose".

As much moose as you'll ever want, I imagine:

Robin's Risque Revels

I first heard the song in January 2024 at a singaround in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England from a member of Green River Tap and Die Molly Dancers, who had flown over from Massachusetts for the Ouse Washes Molly Day of Dance. A great bunch they are too!

In Scotland people listening might be confused by this ditty because our word "moose" sounds very much like the way they pronounce "mouse." Be careful where you sing this. The laughs you get may not be what you expect!
