From: GUEST,Ken Willson

Hi All, My wife and I play celtic and folk music on hammer dulcimer, mtn dulcimer, Irish bouzouki, Bodhran, Guitar and etc with vocals. We have released 3 CD's independently and tour the western US. We also do Childres performance and residencys. We are doing a show in our hometown of Polson, Montana and we have a tech friend who is going to simulcast it on the web. The show will be this thursday Jan 27 at 7:30PM Mountain time. Go to www.dotcast.com Channel 1. I have not clue about the details of seeing this on the computer but if you can it will be fun to have you with us.

Yippee! Thanks for the info, Ken. I haven't seen you guys in Casper in a year or two, so it'll be nice to get my Willson & McKee *fix*. I love your CD;'s, but seeing you two together is half the fun!

Phoaks! If you can, tune in, these guys are really great. I have all of their CD's and they are wonderful. Very talented performers.

Peter, if you see this, McKee is the one who wrote The Pattern. If you tune in maybe you'll get to hear it.

Nice addition to the Mudcat, Ken & Kim. To quote Max, its founder & owner, "Welcome, welcome to the Mudcat Cafe!"

I've gone to the site, but all I get is a blank page -- What's up with that? I'd really like to see the show -- can someone tell me how to make it work?

Áine, when I go there, I get a main page which has a picture of Willson & Mckee on a CD cover, with the notice of the simulcast and the date for it. It hasn't happened yet, so if you clicked on one fo the channels and got a blank page that may be why. It will be live at 730, mountain time, tomorrow, from what I understand.

OK, mehitabel, I went back and I got the same thing. Do you know if there is a particular plug-in that this program requires? (i.e., quicktime, etc.) I just want to make sure I've got the right one downloaded to take advantage of the show.

P.S. Aren't your friends the cutest thangs!

"7.30 Mountain Time" - now what's that in real money? Yes, I know, it's 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time, which means that show will be at half-past noon where I live. I think. Anyway not a time I can get to hear it - so I hope they'l find some way of archiving it.

But we really have got to get in the habit of sticking down what time zone we are talking about when we tell each other about things that are happening live - we've got a worldwide cafe here. Better still, maybe we need to agree on a shared world-wide time zone and put that in announcements as well.

Sorry, Kevin, you are right. I think if we all stick to Mudcat time, i.e. Eastern Standard Time, the east coast where Max is, then we can all calculate. So...it will broadcast at 930p MUDCAT TIME. If I figured it right, that would be about 430a in London.

Áine, sorry, womon, I didn't see your second question. when I went there and wandered around, I wasn't able to get any text on the pages or images, except my friends (yes, they are attractive in person, too!)

Anyhow, I have just emailed the webiste people and told them we all want to be able to watch and to please get back to me, pronto, so I'll let you know, hopefully, really soon!

Thanks kat and Kevin! I've got the window media player downloaded for Netscape. Let me know if I need another plug-in and I'll go get it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the show. Break a leg, Kevin!

A couple of friends did the same sort of thing a while back, my media player handled it ok, but if you are running on minimal RAM it will be choppy. 32 mg RAM in mine, it was wierd! So when are you coming to Phoenix?

And I'll be along myself. I seem to run about 50/50 on these live things so let's hope I'm on 50 instead of 50. If that makes any sense to you, you can probably get some kind of disability benefit.

All righty then -- I checked back on the Channel 1 site and it told me that I had to have Quicktime 4 and provided a link to the Quicktime page to do that. So, I've got the Quicktime plug-in, and I'm hoping that it'll work right and I'll be able to see the show. Keep your fingers crossed . . .

Aine, did it keep popping up with the Installer when you downloaded? Everytime I've installed it, when it was done it has gone right back to the beginning of Install! I hope it did its thing, 'cause I really want to see these guys!

Subject: RE: Simulcast celtic and folk show

Apparently, there's a new installer file that it has to use. I went through the installation again after it downloaded the 'new' installer. However, I haven't gotten it to work on Netscape yet. I gave up and went over to the dear hubby's computer and used the Devil's own Microsoft IE and got a picture of an empty stage, but no sound and nobody on stage yet.

That's better than I've got, Aine! I've downloaded and installed six times, even used the old installer. It says I have it installed and I still get the basically blank page. Darn it! I guess these things are always an experiment the first time. Kind of reminds me of all the old 78's wiht different sized holes; all the different players ya gotta have to work each site.

Ken & Kim, I hope you will do this again. Sorry my 'pewter and I didn't work it out.

Mehitabel,

Try shutting your 'puter down completely and turning it on again. We've got a lovely 'dial tone' coming out of the speaker now. I'm leaving it on -- maybe they'll figure it out by the last bloody song . . .

Sorry Ken.

P.S. Ken & Kim, your thread is experiencing what some call thread creep but others prefer to call thread drift. One can generally count on almost any thread going off on several tangents, a sort of freefall of associations among the fertile minds of the Mudcat, before it is truly done for. So....consider yourselves one of us and know that you've been thread drfited!

You mean you still have unsuspecting Luddites in Wyoming? Here in Colorado, all of our Luddites have become extremely jaded, to the point where it's nearly impossible to put anything over on them. Where is Ludd anyway? Isn't that where Brendy lives?

So, what's the latest with this thing? Does this 'dotcast.com' place do regular music broadcasts (*with* music, hopefully)? Is there any chance that we might Ken & Kim again soon there? It just seems like a great idea, I hope they get the bugs worked out soon!

Here is an email I received from Jim Greer today. Looks like they tapped into a lot more than expected. (Hmmm, kind of like Mudcat Radio once, if I remember correctly.)For any tech questions, Áine, you should probably go to their site and contact Jim. He's been very good about getting back to me. Here's what he had to say:

"Well we tried but we got so many hits that we did not expect our servers would not carry the load. It comes back and haunts us us again MORE BANDWITH !!!!!

"We will be playing their albums for a week or so so tune in starting monday and enjoy.

"We will be doing a live show with them in a controlled space and doing a video of the show so we will keep everyone up to date.

Thanks for you support

Jim Greer"

Thanks mehitabel!

It's great that so many people wanted to watch the show! I'm sure that they'll be able to work out the bugs. I'll be tuning in on Monday to hear your friends play and I hope everyone else who tried to catch the show on Thursday will do the same. Thanks for keeping us up to date on what's going on!

This will be a really nice venue when everything gets smoothed out, don't you think?
