I came to Mudcat in January 1997, and it has been an important part of my life since then. I have met so many wonderful people through Mudcat. Many of them I have also met in person, but some I never saw at all but still I came to love them. I saw a video of one of them just now, and I see he's in an electric wheelchair. I've known him for over thirty years, a little longer than I've been at Mudcat, and life has always been tough for him. But still he's here, and still he keeps keepin' on. And that makes me think about how many people I know here, and how important they have been to me, and how they keep on singing.

This world isn't going the way I would like it to go, but still we keep singing. I went to a singaround yesterday with people I have sung with monthly for years. And it was wonderful.

I hope we can all keep on keepin' on.

Thanks, Joe. When I look at the folks I am connected with on Facebook now, more than half of them came through here and then established accounts on FB. And as you say, it's remarkable to love such a group of people of whom many I've never met in person.

The years roll by, and so many gone. The memorial thread is a hard read these days, but I need it sometimes.
There is a memorial album on display at the FSGW Getaway each Fall that has even more memorials....

Thanks Joe.

I came to Mudcat around the same time as you. My first post was May 1997 but I had been lurking for a couple of months before that, so almost but not quite 30 years for both of us.

I have met a few Aussie Mudcatters, including Bob Bolton and some others including a woman whose name escapes me but she was one of the first to send me a Mudcat Secret Santa present. It was a lovely scarf, just my colour preference and I still have it. I think she was related to the wonderful, sadly now departed singer Ruby Hunter. I just looked up my photos. Her Mudcat name was Hilda Fish.

I also met the amazingly talented Alison Boyd, and Spider Tom at the same folk festival in 2000. And another year I met a man who was stationed in the Antarctic and visited our city where we met each other at a local blues event, along with a now sadly departed friend who was a blues enthusiast and clever and funny writer for a few national magazines.

I have had email and PM conversations with some people here in Oz and also over in the UK and USA. Other than that I just connect here on site and also reminisce sometimes about some of our dear departed Mudcatters whose personalities really made this site zing.

Long live Mudcat!
