BS: THE AMAZING MUDCAT GUITAR!!

Just had to tell you folks--for my college Design II class, we have to make a stringed instrument of our own invention--I have opted to make the AMAZING MUDCAT GUITAR. It's going to be a bass guitar shaped like a giant catfish! I've got all the schematics worked out--and over the next few weeks I will be building it! My ultimate tribute to the Mudcat and all it's members! When it's done, I'll take a picture of it, and have bbc post it on my picture page. Just wanted to let you all know. You folks are so inspirational!

And if you play anything in it that isn't folk it'll self-destruct...Or bite your fingers off.

All young musos should suffer for their craft - I suggest that you string it with barbed wire. Cheers, John

So will it be played with a fishscale plectrum?

Will you be playing fish type songs on it, like Whale meet again (or the WWII version, whale meat again)
Silver threads among the goldfish?

Michael row the bloater shore?

We'll kipper welcome in the hillsides.....

Sweet Betsy from Pike?

I lobster, then I flounder?

Perhaps you're aware Mbo that there's a motion on the table (of dubious origin, but its gaining surprising support) to have you caned, but under the circumstances, a damn good shellacking may be more in order...

so no finny business.

Just be sure to leave room to blow up its ass Meebo, or its not a Mudcat instrument.

Seriously, if you need any help, there are a lot of folks around here with some knowledge on the subject. I'll send you my phone number. What are you making it with? Do you have scale lengths and all figured out or are you going fretless?

I'm sorry to disappoint folks, but--the instrument will have strings made of wire--and thought the will have to make sound--the instrument is not supposed to be tuned or anything. No tuning pegs, just some fancy screws and hardware. But then again--you know me--I play tunes on elastic bands, cans, anything--I can probably pick out a tune on it! And the first thing I'll play is ELO's "The Whale"! And Willie--why am I going to be caned?

The only grounds for caning on Mudcat is singapoor. (Sorry!)

Caitrin, you may be able to see it in person. When it's finished, it will be displayed in the gallery in the Jenkins Fine Art Center at ECU.
