02 Feb 00 - 05:00 AM (#172166) Subject: RE: Great Music Site! From: Skipjack K8 Frank, has there been any recent memory threads on playing by ear versus sightreading? I soley rely on the former, but the learning is slow, and my ear 'misses' some notes. I of course blame the other muso's for not playing the notes I miss, but I'm glad the aural tradition hasn't got me in charge! I gotta get over this snobbery and learn. Has anyone thought up a different musical notation where time literally is represented by length (ie Barrel Organ card) as I find these variously deformed tadpoles unintelligible. If a note lasts four beats, surely it could be a solid rectangular line instead of a white rugby ball? Any ideas? Skipjack |
