Don't know if this is totally correct. (I have two different recordings of this song both difficult to make out all the words.)

DUBLIN IN MY TEARS

I have travelled many miles, and I still don't understand
How sad you have become on my return.
Your old heart is filled with care. Sad and old they left you there.
Your once bright eyes with sorrow softly burn.
I can even sense the change in the sound of children's games.
How the dream's of youth's ambition have all turned to death and fear!
It's an age-old world, I'm told, but I've never felt so old
As I recall old Dublin in my tears.

Oh, the faces that I meet as I roam each one-way street
Reflect the empty statements of the times.
And the old cathedral bell can't be heard above the swell,
For they used to raise a message in her chimes.
All my childhood friends have gone like the streets where we were born
And the time that it has taken doesn't seem so many years.
They've faded in the gloom and now buried in the tomb,
Just a ghost of dear old Dublin in my tears.

There were times when jobs were few and the hungry days we knew.
Some days so bad, the memories I've cursed.
And the prayers I've said to God when on board the princess was
That our children will restore the pride we lost.
But the past they all forsake as they're dancing out your wake
While the heart of Dublin's dying, but nobody really cares.
The fools as they pass by laugh to see an old man cry.
I can't forget old Dublin in my tears. I can't forget old Dublin in my tears.

Hello. My name is Brendan Phelan, composer of 'Dublin In My Tears'. There have been over forty recordings of the song to my knowledge and for some strange reason people seem to think they can change the lyrics whenever they please, which is very annoying to me and causes some confusion for people who wish to record it. I f you wish to contact me at my email address: phelbren@yahoo.ie I will send you the correct, authentic version of the lyrics. Thank you for your interest. Slan, Brendan
