Goodness, Grey Wolf had to talk to real people twice!;-) Here in 'sunny' Florida we had to scrape ice from our windshields this morning. I just figured that if we ahd ice this far south, the weather had things really messed up as far north as MAX is. Good to see all is well.... Mudcat withdrawal is such an ugly sight!!

Surviving a weekend with a Mudcat crash is almost like a branding, or a really tough inauguration. Those who survive are true MC'rs! I found it harder than quitting nicotine , myself.

Thanks for the rescue, Max. If it is of any value in diagnosis there was no problem pinging or UDP checking your server while the http services were off. But I suppose you know what happened where the packet hit the pocket, even if we don't.

Amos, you'll have to forgive "General Banj".....You see when he arrived here over a year ago, he was highly respected for the long list of titles after his name. After realizing that BS was in fact BullShit, MS was More of Same, and PhD met Piled Higher and Deeper, we ceased to refer to him as Doctor and after reading several months of postings he was awarded more letters...IDA, meaning Incredible Dumb Ass. He worked hard to attain this status and indeed was awarded THREE sets of Numbnuts Clusters. But he continues upon the track of complete buffoonery in his singleminded efforts to attain that most exalted of pinnacles and titles....General F****P. You'll notice this is a 4-star rank!!! After intense and methodical postings of total gibberish and proving that he hasn't got a clue, I was happy to bestow this rank upon him. He's one helluva' guy!!!!

Spaw

Wow! I had no idea! General Fu++up, sir, it is an Honor! And to have received such a title from Spaw himself...the only guy who has attained, himself, a more senior rank..is awe-inspiring. You notice, too, that Spaw is much too modest to put his rank after his name... that's the way it is with True Leaders! :>)

Banj, I was just trying to say that I had tried to contact the machine where Mudcat resides and it was answering up (a ping is a quick "Are you there? Yeah, I'm here" exchange and takes its name from submarine sonar where you hear that eerie (ping...scheweeeep...) from the destroyers hunting the sub in movies.)

Well, the Mudcat machine answered up okay and could be matched up from its name to a standard Internet number. So it was alive and breathing, and whatever the problem was that was preventing it from sending out web pages using the HyperText Transfer Protocol (http) was not at those basic "connect with me" levels. It was some other problem.

Max already knew what it was, duh, or he couldn't have fixed it, so my communication was really just venting my despair at not being able to get back in touch with 'Cat!! Sorry for bloviating Mister General Sir!

I got a new computer set up on the weekend and the first thing I did was log on to Mudcat, and I COULDN'T LOG ON!!! I'm so relieved the problem is now fixed! What's the point of having a computer if you can't access Mudcat?! Callie

Prrr, this past week has NOT gone well, and tuning in this morning to find the Cat not there was the last straw. I actually went to WORK (well, I have all but brought a sleeping bag to the Kitchen anyway) but I would much rather have been goofing off here.

Thank God it wasn't anything on my computer! I couldn't get into AltaVista either, although everything else seemed ok.
