13 Feb 00 - 07:32 PM (#177809) Subject: RE: Help: Songs that make us happy From: Amos Hoo what? Where? A lot varies on mood but I love rousing chanties and other songs of the sea (Eddystone Light is one, another favorite is Oh, You New York Girls, the Irish Rover, even some sadder ones like Three Score and Ten, Farewell to Carlingford. I love fighting back songs, like Kelly, the Boy from Killairn, the RIsing of the Moon, and a dozen others of the ilk. I love songs of celebration. I agree with Chevaliers, a family favorite, moonshining songs, and randy tunes like Finnegan's Wake, O'Reilly's Daughter and the Gathering of the Clans (whatever you choose to call it). I love full blooded songs like many of Dylan's tunes, a good trad working song like John Henry or Drill Ye Tarriers, and dramatic ballads like King Brady and the Golden Vanity -- two very different kinds of drama...y'know I don't think you're gonna find the end of my list either. Maybe this is not a category that can be readily answered, since almost all music is made to make someone feel good. |

I love Drill ye Tarriers too. And absolutely, the randy-trads. And great gobs of Stan Rogers, and Grandfather Clock. Making up goofy verses to The Cat Came Back is a gas. |

Many songs make me happy. Anything from silly songs to good old foot stomping, knee slapping country gospel tunes. |
