Regular Hearme Sing. When?

Subject: Regular Hearme Sing. When?
From: GutBucketeer

Hey Everyone:

I had a great time in the Hearme sing Sunday night. Several folks have brought up the idea of having a regular time to get together. The two times I like are:

Sunday starting at 7:00 PM EST.

or

Monday starting at 9:00 PM EST.

What do you think???

If we set a regular time, then all we would have to do is post a suggested topic, or just have open mike.

Anyway, Let's set a topic and time for the next one before Weds. Radio Show, so we can get MAX and Bert to announce it in the upcoming events.

Thanks for spearheading this, JAB. Sunday is better for me, BUT I could do either one.

Subject suggestions:

Songs of Spring (I'm hopeful!)
All Child Ballad Night
All Rabbie Burns Night
Sea Songs
Your Favourite Songwriter's song

I'll join in for those times -- although, while it's still hockey season, I'll probably miss some sessions.

...I vote for Sunday at 7pm. I am usually listening to Thistle and Shamrock and preparing dinner and then in for the night. Mondays are now a "Paddy Go Easy" rehearsal night for me until St. Pat's Day and I am unavailable except when Pat decides he'd rather bartend for Lorenzo!(Ahem!!!Patrick!!)...harpster

I like Sundays too...T&S is over--and I'm free! But kat, we already had Sea Songs and Robert Burns nights! How about "Folk Renditions of Favorite Rock Classics"? I got tons of them--you should hear my folk version of Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again."

This might make more sense if times were spoken of in a single standard, such as, Sunday at 7 p.m. (EST). So could we agree to talk in Eastern Standard Time?

I will vote for the Sunday, 7pm EST suggestion. The day desn't matter to me but I would prefer to be staring at midnight my time to what would be 2am.

As for a theme, I have no suggestions but will happily go along with whatever is agreed on for this week.

Following kat's lead, I also wish to thank Jim for getting this Hearme event organised.

Sunday, 7:00 PM EST is best by me.

I hope the topic for the evening is not intended to be completely rigid. Depending on what it is, I might not like being held to it by hoops of steel.

I neglected to put in the previous message that I sort of like the idea of Songs of Spring. I can think of a couple right offhand that at least arguably belong in that bailiwick.

Songs of the spring sounds great..

It's been my experience that general titles like this work best for song circles, etc. (travelling/transportation, Drive the cold winter away, songs of goodbye and hello...)

If you get too specific, or unusual in the topic, it sometimes makes it difficult for people to jump in with more than one song.

On the other hand, we can just say that once you've sung a song on the topic of the night you can then sing anything that you want.

JAB.

Sunday night is good for me, but don't count on me showing up at 7 PM, when it's still bright and sunny here in California, and the Australians are still in bed. Might be a good time to start, though, because the night owl Europeans might still be awake, and the Australians may get out of bed before the end of it. Maybe not, though, since it's Monday morning for the Australians.

We might get more participation from the UK if it didn't start at midnight there. Of course, if we start it much earlier, it will be the "wee hours" in Oz. Maybe we could have rotating hours? Or perhaps people from different time zones could take turns hosting it? If we have it the same time every week, the same people will never be able to make it.

Jim - excellent job on organizing the HearMe sing! I had a great time!

So, let's hear from all you in the UK and Ozland, when would be good times for you all? Maybe we could alternate weeks, one week-US East coast convenient, one-UK, one-US-West coast convenient, one-Oz? Or any other order?

Songs of Spring sounds good to me, and just once round the circle. I like the flexibility of us being open to other stuff. Although, Dave, darlin, doesn't have to bands of steel, could just be a soft velvet ribbon.**BG** I also like the idea of not getting too exact, was just trying to get some ideas going.

That time is mid afternoon Monday in Oz... most Aussies are at work (behind firewalls).... and I'm asleep after a night shift....

to be better for us..... maybe the occasional Friday night EST then that would be Saturday afternoon......

maybe something over the weekend when Aussies are off work and starting earlier so the UK aren't getting up in the middle of the night......

Alison, I guess that one regular event would be nice but there is no reason why we can't try other times as well... believe it or not, I have even tried to get my mother (who loves folk music and occasionaly reads MC) interested in joining in and she might be persuaded to do so with an earlier start during the weekend...

Wow, a regular Sunday night sing - what a treat!

I'll be late to this one, though -- gonna go hear Celtic Thunder play at the Old Brogue. Since the last one went on for hours, I'm guessing there will still be hangers-on when I find my way in.

Can't wait!

Thanks, Jim.
