I believe the manufacturer was Kenworth, but not sure. They are UK origin, and very tough to come by in the states normally, now they are impossible to find. I have been led to believe that they are no longer available and would like confirmation that there are indeed no Medium Gauge(ends not raveled)acoustics out there...Thanks, playing with crappy strings until then...Elle |

I've never heard of them and Kenworth would have stuck in my mind since they make trucks!! Outside if hyping things, the only "Acoustic Gold" I recall is a Pick-up that's very tough to install, but works fair on classical guitars. Do you still have a package or something maybe? I tried Silk and Steel and I couldn't get them off my guitar fast enough... The weren't bright enough... they went dead fast and on my buddies guitar, the actually frayed!! LOL! But I like something with a little more bit to them... both physically and tonnaly (?is that a word?) So I'll stick to martin Medium gague myself... JenEllen... I've only ever heard of one brand of gold guitar stings, and for the moment the name escapes me.. but I know I saw an add for them in Accoustic Guitar magazine... so if they have a web presence, ya might be able to find more info there... I'd look it up, but my mom stole all my copies... |

String selection has a lot to do with the individual instrument, player's style, type of music, etc., along with personal sound preferences. If you're going for volume with a dreadnought or a jumbo and you like the sound etc. of med. gauge phosphor bronze....Its unlikely you'll care doodly squat about S&S!!! Then again if you're a finger stylist with a OO, S&S might suit you just fine. Spaw |

But that was exactily my point folks... everbody uses different strings... I recally having to use classical strings when I started and absolutly hating them... I could never get over the feeling that I was playing with a kids toy with plasitc strings... I also found Inever really developed any calouses with classical strings, and so could never really play for any length of time.. now I've been playing brass wound for so long, my left arm is nearly dead from the elbow down... I can amaze my friends by doing things like crushing out cigarettes or picking up hot plates from out of the oven with my left hand! And for my next trick... watch very carefully... Nothing up my sleeve.. and at no time will my hands leave my wrists... But Spaw?? What's a OO?? |

I tried these a while back on my Gibson and have been using them every since. They have a really good sound and seem to stay bright longer. As alway YMMV!!! longhair |

From small to large is O, OO, OOO, OM, OOOO(sometimes M), D (for dreadnaught), J (Jumbo). Some manufacturers use other terms as well to replace Martin's or to designate a difference in shoulder slope or other things. Spaw |

But then again, in Classical guitar, your fingers are moving so much that heavier "super callous makers" would hinder speed and comfort--not to mention your hand would fall off--especially after playing an 18-minute fugue by Bach. My old Gibson J 45 preferred Martin Bluegrass. (Blue steel strings really sucked) My Taylor likes D'Addario medium bronze. They stay alive much longer than any other I've tried. I also use a cleaner called FAST FRET. It extendes the life of any string. |
