I've added a wonderful song to the Mudcat Songbook by Bev and Jerry, 'Rosa, Oh, Rosa' about a very important woman in US history, Rosa Parks. Please check it out. Thank you Bev and Jerry!

Refresh. There will be a song coming but I didn't want this thread to fall off the 'edge of the world'. Without the 'super search', I don't know how to get it back again?

In the late 50s early 60s, The Ace Café on London's North Circular road, was the place to be and be seen, if you were into 'bikes' and 'bikers'. Nearly all the British made ones like Triumph, Norton BSA and AJS and such like, could be seen but the occasional Harley would receive admiring glances. The early Japanese machines were looked upon as a passing fad., ah, those were the days. I used to go there by bus (oh the shame of it). It seemed then to me, that things would always be the same but….

This song is warmly dedicated to ........? With thanks.

Going up the 'Ace'.

Well, you can keep all of your 'fancy' restaurants
Right here, are all of the things that a man could want
Good 'Old Gerry Lee's', never gonna change his tune
And they'll never take away, this 'Greasy Spoon'

Now the night is filled with such a 'Triumphant' noise
Roaring in from Windsor, it's the 'Bonneville' boys
The leather girls, they really don't want to leave those boys alone
They're busy choosing, who is the one who's gonna take them home

I'm going up the 'Ace'
Weaving in the chase
Two up and held in a pillion embrace
I'm going up the 'Ace'
Keeping up the pace
Burning up the road with the wind in my face

See the 'ton-up' vicar, all dressed in PVC
Preaching salvation, says God is reaching out to me
His congregation, they just stand and stare
No need to promise me Heaven, for I'm already there

Hear the juke-box blearing out, 'Leader Of The Pack'

Sandy limps in, and she's still dressed in black
I see her trying to hold back a tear, as she joins the queue
She's there on her own, but she's still orders for two

I'm going up the 'Ace'
Weaving in the chase
Two up and held in a pillion embrace
I'm going up the 'Ace'
Keeping up the pace
Burning up the road with the wind in my face

There's a bike here from each and every part of the land
There's a guy here that's riding one that's even 'made in Japan'
All this 'hot metal' just waiting to explode
Getting ready to 'burn-up' the North Circular Road>>

Well, you can keep all of your 'fancy' restaurants
Right here, are all of the things that a man could want
Good 'Old Gerry Lee's', never gonna change his tune
And they'll never take away, this 'Greasy Spoon'

I'm going up the 'Ace'
Weaving in the chase
Two up and held in a pillion embrace
I'm going up the 'Ace'
Keeping up the pace
Burning up the road with the wind in my face

Of course they did take it away

Subject: Lyr Add: ANGUS AND THE KILT^^
From: Molly Malone

Any chance you'd like to add this one in as well?

ANGUS AND THE KILT
Written by Lolly Foy
Performed by Wench Works

Now Angus was a happy man for soon he would be wed.
He'd found a brisk and bonny lass to take unto his bed
But happier still his mother was that he had found a wife
For truth be told she'd often feared to be stuck with him for life.

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
For truth be told she'd often feared to be stuck with him for life.

In honor of the grand affair that wedding day would be,
She set about to weave a kilt the finest ever seen.
The night before the wedding when the kilt was finally done,
She called young Angus over and she tried it on her son.

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
She called young Angus over and she tried it on her son.

She wound that kilt around him, and she wound and wound and wound,
But when she finished winding it was still 8 yard too long.
Oh, never fear me bonny boy, we'll simply cut it off.
And to your blushing bride we will give the extra cloth.

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
And to your blushing bride we will give the extra cloth.

Well Angus was so please you know his heart had swelled with pride.
He thought that he was rush right out and show it to his bride.
'Twas rainin' so he grab a cloak to shield him on the moor
But in his haste to be away his kilt slammed in the door.

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
But in his haste to be away his kilt slammed in the door.

Well Angus was in such a rush to show off for his bride
He never really noticed that he'd left his kilt behind
He knocked upon the door, cried let me in I pray
I've something that you've got to see before our wedding day.

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
I've something that you've got to see before our wedding day.

Well Brigit lets him in you know but says you cannot stay
I've got to get me beauty sleep before our wedding day
I'll only be a moment love, but it's so grand my dear
You've really got to see what I've a hiding under here

Well it's a fine thing, a bonny thing the grandest ever seen.
You've really got to see what I've a hiding under here

Now, when the cloak was thrown aside and Angus stood quite bare
We must admit, she was impressed and tried hard not to stare
Oh, love I ne'er seen finer, though far and far I've roamed.
Why lass he cries that's nothing. I've got eight more yards at home.

or this as well?

Danny Boy-Rest in Pieces

I met him in a pub one night,
In a crowd of Well-to-do's
He had a claudagh (sp?)on each finger
And a shamrock on each shoe.
And when he said Top o' the Mornin'
My heart was filled with dread.
Well he said his name was Danny Boy
So I shot him in the head.

Raise up a cheer and lift your pints
and hold them way up high.
And sing a song of tragedy beneath the irish sky.
From the glen the pipes are calling,
But he never will reply.
For I buried Danny Boy beneath
the fields of Athenry.

Tu-ra-lu
Tu-ra-lu
Tu-ra-lay
Tu-ra-Lay
I thought I might drop him in Gallway Bay.
Tu-ra-lu
Tu-ra-lu
Tu-ra-lye
Tu-ra-Lye
Well I buried Danny Boy beneath
the fields of Athenry.

Well the guarda, fell upon me
And they took away my gun.
And a hush fell o'er the crowd
When they saw what I had done.
Said the guardah, "God forgive me,
For I'm sure in hell to burn."
Then he shot poor Danny once again
To make sure he won't return.

Chorus

Well, some call me a hero
And some call me a fiend.
But they still sing his sad ol' song
While drinking beer dyed toxic green.
But my sentence, it was commuted.
It seems I'm off scott free.
Well, I think I'll have another pint
And wait for Michael Flatly.

Chorus

This started out to be a harsh comment on the 'art' world but ended up being a tribute to an individual artist. It is also about how to achieve a kind of immortality and a good excuse for a lot of heavy name-dropping.

A Little Titian

If you want your portrait done
Go to the man who's number one
Where do I place my commission?
Do I ask Picasso?
Or Michaelangelo?
No, Venice is the place to go
For a little Titian

Don't want to appear, in no Vermeer
Or the 'Laughing Cavalier'
Idiot grin, frozen in, one position
Poor Franz Hals
He should ask his pals
As to just how?
You get a little Titian

I could have asked Van Gogh
But he took the (y)ear off
Well surely, there was a man with a mission?
But a year in Provence
Is not the Renaissance
When all one wants
Is a little Titian

Well I'm no prude
But to be painted in the nude
To stand up and shed my inhibitions
Like 'The Venus Of Urbino'
In a cold studio
Is that why she shows?
Just a little Titian

Don't want to hang in the Louvre
I'd prefer to be on the move
Go around the world in a travelling exhibition
But The Uffitzi?
Would maybe suit me?
For there I could see
A room full of Titian

Among kings and heads of state
Amongst the good and the great
Philosophers and mathematicians
You, won't want my face
Hanging around your place
But you'd find the space
For a little Titian

Roger Gall.

Don't forget, for a small donation to The Mudcat, there is still the opportunity for you or your loved ones, to be immortalised, in a song to be commissioned from our Amos. I would not bet against him being able to paint your portrait also?

I think its my best work. It's not really about fishing, or boats, at all. It's about the inevitability of aging and the whims of fate.

They're both as good as they look, so check 'em out. It's rumoured that Willie-O will be sending in a recording of his song to Max for the Mudcat Radio soon. Let's hope so! Well done, the both of you!

I'm sure glad the Songbook exists as a place to put up old works--I just can't seem to get the hang of any of these challenges--I can't write to order, at least not at the drop of a challenge. I tend to turn things over in the cranium for a long time before writing about them--except I usually forget to ever get around to it!
