Lyr Req: Downhearted Blues (B B King)

First, I must apologize for my lack of blues knowledge, I'm just starting to really listen. My question here is this... there's a song, I think by BB King, that goes.. "been down harlem babe... ever since the day we met." What is the name of that song?? It's in the Allman Brothers Band "BB King Medley," and I'd really like to have a copy of the original. Thanks a lot --

"I been downHEARTED, baby,
Ever since the day we met."

is how it goes, I think. And I think it may actually be called "Downhearted Blues". The usual searches on the Mudcat servers produced nothing by BB King. But you should be able to come up with it now.

Good luck, James.

Well, on the AMG (All Music Guide) [http://www.allmusic.com] I found this album listing, and I'm sure it's on some more recent ones -- although, for me, the "old" BB King recordings of the '50s and '60s are the best.

1962 LP Crown 5309 Crown Clp-5309 B.B. King - Guitar, Vocals 1. Your Letter 2. You're Gonna Miss Me 3. Let Me Love You 4. I Can't Explain 5. Troubles Don't Last 6. Got 'em Bad 7. I Need You Baby 8. So Many Days *9. Downhearted* 10. Strange Things 11. Wrong Road

There you have it.

James.

Got these lyrics from Harry's Blues page, a great blues resource. This is one of B.B.'s best. If you're just getting into the blues, I'd strongly suggest you seek out some Muddy Waters, Albert King and Little Walter as a starting point.

DOWN HEARTED
recording of probably 1962
from Blues in My Heart (Crown CLP-5309) & Heart Full of Blues (United 7703), copyright notice

I've been down hearted ever since the day we met.
Baby, I've been down hearted ever since the day we met.
I've been loving nothing but the blues, baby. How blue can you get?

My love burned like a fire. Your love burned like a cigarette.
Yes, my love burned like a fire. Your love burned like a cigarette.
Yes, I've seen you put it down and crush it, baby. How blue can you get?

Oh, you're evil when I'm with you, baby, and you're jealous when we're apart.
Yes, you're evil when I'm with you, baby, and you're jealous when we're apart.
How blue can you get, baby? The answer's right here in my heart.

I gave you a brand new Ford, but you said, "I want a Cadillac."
I bought you a ten-dollar dinner and you said, "Thanks for the snack."
I let you live in my penthouse. You said it just a shack.

I gave seven children and now you wanna give them back.
I said, I've been down hearted, baby, ever since the day we met.
I've been loving nothing but the blues. Tell me how blue can you get?

The lyrics that Steve Latimer has given you are from the song How Blue Can You Get...you can find it on many Live BB CDs, but one of the best performances is on B.B. King Live in Cook County Jail. Check it out...you'll love the whole CD.

How Blue Can U get, in my opinion, is LKing's best song. Wait....second, "the thrill..." is the first.

No, wait..."You Upsets Me, Baby" is the first. No, on second thought....oh, it's hopeless.
