I'd like to find the lyrics to "Please Don't Bury Me in the Cold, Cold Ground" by John Prine. This funny tune causes people to die laughing, but only after willing their body parts to posterity. Anybody know it?

PLEASE DON'T BURY ME
(John Prine)
As recorded by John Prine on “Sweet Revenge” (1973)

1. Woke up this morning, put on my slippers,
Walked in the kitchen and died.
And oh, what a feeling! when my soul went through the ceiling
And out up into heaven I did rise.

2. When I got there, they did say: "John, it happened this-a-way,
You slipped upon the floor and hit your head,
And all the angels say, just before you passed away,
These were the very last words that you said:

CHORUS: Please don't bury me down in that cold, cold ground.
No, I don't wanna have them cut me up and pass me all around.
Throw my brain in a hurricane, and the blind can have my eyes,
And the deaf can take both of my ears if they don't mind the size.

3. Give my stomach to Milwaukee if they run out of beer.
Put my socks in a cedar box. Just get 'em out of here!
Venus de Milo can have my arms. Look out! I've got your nose.
Sell my art to the junkman, and give my love to Rose. CHORUS

4. Give my feet to the footloose, careless, fancy-free.
Give my knees to the needy. Don't pull that stuff on me.
Hand me down my walking cane. It's a sin to tell a lie.
Send my mouth way down south, and kiss my ass goodbye. CHORUS

My husband is sure that Please Don't Bury Me In the Cold, Cold Ground by John Prine was sung by another Newfoundland singer, songwriter. He believes his name is Alan Cameron...he was a priest at one time in his life. Are you aware of his career? Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Yep. Always go to the John Prine Shrine for J.P.'s lyrics. They're the real thing. 100% as written and performed by John. None of that transcribed-by-an-idiot-who-can't-hear-and-can't-spell crap like on most lyrics servers.

My estimation of any artist goes up considerably when he posts his lyrics to his website. Heck, if I was famous, I would. Like I'd want some moron going around singing the wrong words to my song?

Coleen, you may be thinking of John Allan Cameron from Nova Scotia, The (alleged) Grandaddy(self styled) of Folk in those parts.

- OK I'll agree lots of good stuff, even lots of great stuff has come down from Canada, but Prine is definately not a "Newfoundland singer songwriter". Anybody with a mind that wierd could only, like me, be from Chicago.

Considering the idjets that visit this place (and never heard of Stephen Foster)- the humor/irony is increased when looking at the original:

Anbother verse that someone I knows sings (not John's writing) goes like this:

Let my hands be hand-me-down, my liver and my spleen.
My pancreas is perfect; good enough for any king.
And if you don't have no sex life; don't have no fun at all,
Just tel the doc to make a swap. Man, you can have a ball!
