Roll on buddy, roll, on, (2x) Smiley Hobbs and company (Folkways - "Mountain Music Bluegrass Style") did a great twist on Merle's song by going up to the 4-chord first, then down to the 1. Best, James.

I would like any info about them or any other recordings by Jack and Derroll. I would also like to know if they are still available. |

20 Feb 00 - 10:29 AM (#181626) Subject: RE: Help: Roll on Buddy From: GUEST,Frank Hamilton Jack picked this song up from the singing of "Crazy" George Pegram, "The Mayor of Statesville" NC in 1954 when Guy, Jack and I traveled to the Ashville folk festival. George Pegram gave a memorable performance with Red Parham, one of the best harmonica players I ever heard who had a peculiar performance of passing the harp through large flaring nostrils and making it still sound good. Jack in his prodigious talent for mimicry does a good George Pegram. Pretty much the way George sounded on his record with Derroll. Frank |

Bugsy kindly obtained for me an excellent double Italian-released CD set that has 28 tracks of Derroll and Ramblin' Jack. Send him a personal message - he may be able to do the same for you, or at least point you in the right direction. I think that is about all that is extant on CD featuring Derroll and Ramblin' Jack together. I would be a minor miracle if you found any LPs still around. --Stewie. |
