Hi, Zander - I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for. The song with that title that I'm familiar with is this one (click), which is in our Digital Tradition database. Are you trying to get hold of the record, get background information on the song, or what?
You may also want to follow up at Folk Music: An Index to Recorded Sources (click). Click here to access the list of recordings they have for the song, and follow their links for more information on the Elliot/Adams recording.
Hope that helps.

Merle Travis had the most popular treatment of that phrase, but there was at least one other treatment by either the Blue Sky Boys or the Delmore Brothers:

Roll on buddy, roll, on, (2x)
You wouldn't roll so slow if you knew what I know,
Roll on, buddy, roll on.

Smiley Hobbs and company (Folkways - "Mountain Music Bluegrass Style") did a great twist on Merle's song by going up to the 4-chord first, then down to the 1.

Best, James.

I have a tape of a record or possibly two records by Jack and Derroll one of which I believe is called Roll on Buddy, although the song starts one record and finishes the other. I would like any info about them or any other recordings by Jack and Derroll. I would also like to know if they are still available.

Jack picked this song up from the singing of "Crazy" George Pegram, "The Mayor of Statesville" NC in 1954 when Guy, Jack and I traveled to the Ashville folk festival. George Pegram gave a memorable performance with Red Parham, one of the best harmonica players I ever heard who had a peculiar performance of passing the harp through large flaring nostrils and making it still sound good. Jack in his prodigious talent for mimicry does a good George Pegram. Pretty much the way George sounded on his record with Derroll.

Hi Frank. Thanks for the memories of Pegram and Parham. 'Course I'm still partial to Sam and Kirk McGee's version on a great Folkways compilation by Mike Seeger in the sixties. "She's a good woman just the same, but she won't change her name"....great line.

Rick

Archie Green, in his book "Only a Miner" devotes a chapter to this song. Good book!

Zander,

Six of the tracks from Derroll and Ramblin' Jack's 'Roll on Buddy' are included on a fine Topic CD: 'Ramblin' Jack: The Legendary Topic Masters' Topic TSCD 477. Bugsy kindly obtained for me an excellent double Italian-released CD set that has 28 tracks of Derroll and Ramblin' Jack. Send him a personal message - he may be able to do the same for you, or at least point you in the right direction. I think that is about all that is extant on CD featuring Derroll and Ramblin' Jack together. I would be a minor miracle if you found any LPs still around.
