How about transferring this to the current song challenge (9) thread? We are all making up food songs there. We can make up some words if you like!

Can anyone help us and find these lyrics? You will save Mick Bracken from finding an old tape and then typing in. Thanks to "anyone". Bill

Your OK Mick but please don't buy the tape. I think if persistent on this thread we will land it. They play it on occasional Saturdays here in Boston on WROL(which is now broadcast via satelite). I thought we could have some fun with this song at the Green Briar Rest. & Pub where we have 35-45 musicians and few singers(ev. monday nite). Bill

Good idea Crowhugger. I would doubt they have the lyrics printed or on disk. Last resort! Thanks, Bill

Bill, tried several places to get this one. No-one has it in stock and none of my friends have it. Brendan Shine did it about ten years ago and it now appears on his "Best of" or similar.

This remminds me of a song I heard the Wolfetones do a number of years ago. It had a chorus that went something like:

With your hairy eggs and bacon, Hairy eggs and ham.

I never could understand what that meant, but I can't get the words out of my mind. Any Wolfetones fans out there?

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M A SAVAGE FOR BACON AND CABBAGE

I'M A SAVAGE FOR BACON AND CABBAGE
Songwriter?

CHORUS: I'm a savage for bacon and cabbage.
Some call it bubble and squeak.
My tummy starts achin' when I see the bacon.
With the smell of the cabbage I'm weak.
If you're Irish then next to white puddin',
Whether you're big or you're small,
You'll always go for the bacon and cabbage
'Cos that is the best feed of all.

1. When we were young, on a Sunday for dinner,
The mammy would stand by the pot,
Cooking the bacon along with the cabbage
And serving them up nice and hot.
Me father would cut up the bacon,
Then throw down a bit to the cat.
There would be a big scene as we fought for the lean
But I always wound up with the fat. CHORUS

2. When I'd be heading to somebody's wedding,
A few pints the first thing I need;
Then when I'm able, I'd move to the table,
Ready to eat a good feed.
I don't want your starters or afters,
The ould square of butter or bun.
Just give me a big plate of bacon and cabbage
And I'll belch like a bull when I'm done. CHORUS

3. When you go for a nosh in hotel real posh,
They'll give you a menu to read,
But you'd need the knowledge of ten years in college
To find out the food that you need.
Don't bother with all that ould rubbish.
Ask for the meal you love best.
A big hape (heap) of spuds with the bacon and cabbage,
Man! that will put hair on your chest. CHORUS TWICE

I'M A SAVAGE FOR BACON AND CABBAGE sung by Brendan Shine at YouTube.

The lyrics exactly match those posted by Brakn above.
