Would like to know the lyrics to this song and what year it was written and who it was written by.

The following extract from Rich Kienzle's notes to Various Artists 'Columbia Country Classics: The Golden Age Vol 1' Columbia 468119 2, on which the Ted Daffin's Texans original appears, sheds some light on this:

'Born to Lose' was also a product of the war years. Its author was Theron Eugene 'Ted Daffin', a former member of the Blue Ridge Playboys and Bar X Cowboys who'd previously penned the classic ballad 'Worried Mind'. He wrote 'Born to Lose' after overhearing the phrase during a poker game. Daffin, who signed all his songs to Columbia, used the pseudonym 'Frankie Brown' on this number at Satherley's [Art Satherley - Columbia's A&R man] direction and recorded it a 1942 [20 Feb 1942] session in Hollywood with his own band, the Texans. It became an enormous hit in 1943, and as a standard has been recorded by everyone from Patti Page to the Ventures.

I omitted to mention that you can find the lyrics and chords at the Cowpie site - go to Mudcat links.

This is one of three threads about Born to Lose that Dulci46 has posted to. Link is to the longest and oldest of the three

I simply wish to apologise for the misspelling of Ted's surname - 'Daffan', not 'Daffin' as I had it.

I have the sheet music somewhere in my Big Pile o' Stuff on top of my bookcase, if you'd like for me to scan it and email it to you.

Or is that a copyright no-no too?

To WyoWoman,

I would appreciate a copy of Born to Lose if it is not a copywrite no-no. I hope I did this right. I am new to mudcats and have posted twice sometimes and come up as a guest also even though I am signed on. So here goes hope it doesn't mess up when I submit this.
