24 Feb 00 - 12:04 PM (#184091) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: hard working hands From: wysiwyg Could that be a missing or locally known verse to PRECIOUS LORD in the DigiTrad? It fits. Doc Watson has that on an album, but I don't recall that verse. Anyway it can be pasted into that tune till you find more of this one. Lots of hymns seem to work that way, amen? |

01 Mar 00 - 01:04 AM (#187286) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: hard working hands From: Dale Rose Oh, we haven't failed you yet, just haven't got it done yet! These Hands was written by Eddie Noack, and recorded by Hank Snow on December 13, 1955. The recording is located on Bear Family 15476, disc 2. There have been other recordings as well. Check out these lyrics on Manfred Helfert's pages. I think they are what you are looking for. While you are there, have a look around, he has much of interest on his site. |

08 May 01 - 01:56 AM (#457620) Subject: Lyr Add: THESE HANDS (Eddie Noack) From: CRANKY YANKEE These Hands (Hank Snow( (I think) My group "The Muleskinners" won the USAF-wide "Tops in Blue" competition in 1958 with "Company's comin'" and this one. 1st integrated country-western group ever to record for a major label. These hands aren't the hands of a gentleman These hands are calloused and old These hands raised a family, these hands built a home Now these hands raise, to Praise The Lord. These hands won the heart of my darling And with hers they were never alone If these hands filled their task, then what more could one ask For these fingers have worked to the bone. Now don't try to judge me by what you'd like to be For my life hasn't been a success Some people have power but still they grieve While these hands brought me happiness Now I'm tired nd I'm old and I haven't much gold Maybe things aint worked out like I planned. Lord Above, hear my plea When it's time to judge me, Take a look at these hard workin' hands comp-masters take notice: If I knew how to send singing over these wires I could send you the melody.Perhaps someone out there in The Muddy world could insruct me. |
08 May 01 - 04:32 AM (#457666) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: hard working hands From: Stewie Cranky, I don't think your 'first integrated' claim holds up. Taylor's Kentucky Boys, an ensemble that included Jim Booker on fiddle, recorded for Gennett in 1927. The Georgia Yellow Hammers recorded with Andrew Baxter for Victor also in 1927. Jimmie Davis recorded in 1930 for Victor with a band that included Oscar Woods and Ed Schaffer. --Stewie. |
