Here's a great little song from Norman Blake. I would appreciate some help. Can anyone with knowledge of such things correct any of the train, lines and geographical names that may be incorrect. Thanks.

Nope--looks pretty good. I see old MKT cars occasionally when I drive north to college. I love Norman and I've always loved trains; thanks for posting this.

This first time I had occasion to see the lylics of this song.
FANTASTIC- All the railroads and etc are right on -correct.
I learned my trade on the "old CNJ" "Throwing switches" "Riding the retainers" out on the fast freights and Pier18 coal trains. Brings back memories of my boomer days.

Norman Blake must have done most of the lyrics. He is a real train buff.

However, the song dates (at least) to a recording made 1 OCT 1928 in Nashville by RCA.

Originally titled "The Little Red Caboose Behind the Train" and credited to Paul Warmack and the Gully Jumpers.

The tune is the same one used in the better-known "Little Old Log Cabin in the Lane". This one may be a predecessor of that song.

The tune and first chorus are close to the 1928 recording. I will listen again.
