Does anybody know about this event? It looks like it will be at Merkin Hall, in early September. Pierre Bensusan is booked there. Anybody else?

I'll be there if I can re-schedule some business crap. There is also a classical guitar festival coming up at the 92 Street Y. I'll get the details for anyone interested.

MMario and Roger,
A pubic wig? Why? How? And where do you find this wealth of information?

I'm green with envy Easy!

Remember Peter Sellers' character in "Dr Strangelove"? President Merkin Muffly? I thought I'd die laughing.

Well, Sin, if others will forgive me continuing the thread creep, ( but then my arrogance is only exceeded by my ignorance!)..WHY did I know that? Er...well, we didn't have tv when I was young so I'm depraved on account of I was deprived!.
As well as the reference Rick mentioned there was Antony Newley's ill-fated musical. I guess the writers of both knew Hollywood wouldn't get the reference!
Online dictionaries seem to omit it and a Ixquick search would bring up suppliers of sex aids (er.. I'd imagine...) but the good old printed OED complete ed. 1933-ish ,gives the earliest reference as 17th century but used to refer to the "real thing", rather than a wig. As a substitute it was first defined in the 1796 Grose's Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue as "counterfeit hair for women's privy parts".
I leave it to others more familiar with the vagaries of, fashion and vanity to suggest when and why it was used in practice!

"Can Hieronymous Merkin Forget Mercy Humpp and Find True Happiness?"!!!! I saw the movie and didn't know the reference. Actually I never got past the name Mercy Humpp.
