I found a nice page of Woody lyrics here (click), but no rubber dolly. Not even a rubber duckie. It was written by Skyles and first recorded in San Antonio in 1938. It was reissued on 'Operators' Special', an album on the fine, but sadly short-lived, String label (compilations by Tony Russell) a subsidiary of Topic. I've got that album, and listen to it frequently. It might even be in my top ten played over the last few months. Got it on now! (Side tracks, Choates was only 28 when he died, and I read somewhere that he never had a fiddle of his own, just borrowed one wherever he went. He was the first to record Jolie Blon, also.) |

The idiotic lyrics are incidental to what is simply a glorious romp featuring Dave Hughs (trumpet/vocals). He was singing something like:

My mama told me she's gonna buy me a rubber dolly Instrumental Joe, I second Dale's suggestion that you should check out Harry Choates (pron Shoats) if you haven't heard him. Remembered by some as 'a no good, wine-head son-of-a-bitch' and also as the best known and perhaps most successful of Cajun fiddlers in his short career. The last 5 of his 28 years were spent basically on a wild drunken spree. In 1951, he was arrested for non-payment of maintenance and thrown into an Austin jail, pending transfer to Beaumont. During the night, he suffered an attack of the DTs and was brutally beaten to shut him up. He fell into a coma and died. He is buried at Port Arthur. There are 2 CDs available: the wonderful Arhoolie one that Dale referred to and also one on Krazy Kat 'Harry Choates: Five-Time Loser 1940-1951' which is more western-swingish than the Arhoolie. --Stewie.

The filter on the main threads page does not go back far enough but as far as I can make out by looking at the HTML, all it does is re-requests the threads.cfm page with the additional "Title" and "Age" paramters. Using the template I gave you should be identical to using the filter but it will allow you to look back further in time than the 3 year limit.
