15 Jun 97 - 01:26 AM (#6849) Subject: I can't remember the lyrics...anybody? From: Marian Help! I was reminded today of a really old camp song that ends with the line "peace on earth/was all it said" and I know the song was about two fighting peoples, one in the valley and one on a mountain and one group had a trasure, but when the other group finally got the treasure, "Peace on earth/was all it said" Anybody know this song or know the lyrics? Post it here or email me: wasque@mindspring.com Thanks! *Marian* |

15 Jun 97 - 02:12 AM (#6854) Subject: RE: From: Bill (ssssbill@aol.com) Howdy Marian, The song is One Tin Soldier from the movie Billy Jack. It has been given here before. You may have to set the age back to 90 days or more to find it, but it is in at least one old strand. You could always go rent the movie if you want to know how it was done on screen.

I haven't gotten around to downloading the April 97 DT yet, so I hadn't found One Tin Soldier in my search. I was doing a little checking around the nice new format here, and there it is easy for you to find.

The Canadian pop group Original Caste first recorded the song in 1969. The track briefly reached limited popularity in Canada and reached Number 34 on the American pop charts in early 1970. A 1972 remake by Skeeter Davis had light success on the American country charts but did very well in Canada, peaking at number 4 on the Canadian country chart and #2 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary chart.from wikipedia "One Tin Soldier" is a 1960s era anti-war song written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. Jinx Dawson of the band Coven sang the song at a 1971 session with the film's orchestra as part of the soundtrack for the Warner Brothers movie Billy Jack. Jinx asked that her band, Coven, be listed on the recording and film, not her name as a solo artist... here is an animated version that was featured on Sonny and Cher show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg84L84uop8 Does anyone know of any thing else written by Dennis Lambert or Brian Potter? 16 Sep 10 - 11:18 PM (#2988430) Subject: RE: 'Peace on earth/was all it said' From: Joe Offer The song is usually marketed as "One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack)." The Harry Fox Agency, which licenses recordings of the song, has it listed only as One Tin Soldier, and has no listing for "The Legend of Billy Jack." -Joe- |
