Lyr Req: Ploughboy Laddies & Over My Mountain

Subject: Need lyrics for 2 early Dougie McLean songs:
From: Michael Carr

Does anybody know the words two The Ploughboy Laddies and Over My Mountain? These were the first two pieces by Dougie that I ever heard, and over and above being good songs, I have a certain sentimental attachment to them as well. When I asked him at a show if he might perform them he seemed reluctant to do so. I suspect this has something to do with the label he recorded them under. The first is traditional and the second, I think, is one of his own. Any help would be appreciated, esp. if you can tell me where I can find them recorded. Thanks!

I'm sorry, I've never heard those two songs.. I was just introduced to the music of Dougie MacLean by a friend of mine who is a minstrel at the NJ RenFaire. I've heard only three of his songs so far.. do you know where I can find the rest?

"Over My Mountain" was the "B-side" of "Caledonia" when Dougie and Alan Roberts [ RIP ] released it as a single on the "Criminal Records" label [ "Stealing Our Way Into Your Heart" ] !!! It was released in 1978.
The 2 tracks I think were taken from an LP they recorded as a duo, also titled "Caledonia".
It shouldn't be difficult to find the words to the "Ploo'boy Laddies" [sic], and if you can't get the lyrics to "Over My Mountain", I'll write them out and post them here for you, but it might be the week-end before I have a chance to do it.
Dougie's pretty good about doing requests - if he didn't sing them when you asked, it's more probable that he just hadn't sung them for a long time.

Michael

Obtained from http://www.dougiemaclean.com/index.php where you will find most of Dougie's lyrics unfortunately The Plooboy Laddies is not listed probably because it is traditional and the lyrics are in an earlier thread. Dougie has adjusted it a little for his version.

OVER MY MOUNTAIN
Music & Lyrics by Dougie MacLean. Published by Limetree Arts and Music

I'm walking out easy and I'm walking out slow
I'm taking this old road to a place that I know
And I don't feel the wind and I don't see the snow
Over my mountain

And it's cold, getting colder but I'm feeling so warm
I'm flying so high I just can't see the storm
It's a long time ago I was here on my own
Over my mountain

And isn't it strange how things happen to be
So many years on and he's no stranger to me
And all the old stories are easy to see
When I'm out over my mountain

So in sad isolation I'm feeling so good
I've drifted too far but I knew that I would
And it seems I am laughing and I knew that I could
Over my mountain

So I'm walking out easy I'm walking out slow
I'm taking this old road to a place that I know
And I don't feel the wind and I don't see the snow
Over my mountain

Regards

If you're at all interested, there is a copy of the "Caledonia" LP record up for sale on ebay at the moment - [not mine].
