27 Jun 97 - 01:14 AM (#7579) Subject: RE: Petunia In Onion Patch From: Casey Cleo, I have it on good authority (my mother) that it was sung on the radio in the fifties by Two Ton Baker, believed to be out of Chicago. The portion of the lyric my mother remembers (and it may be the whole song) are: I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, An onion patch, an onion patch. I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch. Oh, won't you come and play with me? Boo hoo! Boo hoo! The air's so strong it takes my breath away, Quite away. I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch. Oh, won't you come and play with me? I hope this helps. Casey |

Please! I was very young at the time (honest) but I can remember hearing it often on the "wireless". Cheers, |

It may be a few days before I can see my friend, but when I do I'll post as complete of lyrics as she remembers. There were other lyrics that she recited. |

28 Jun 01 - 07:17 PM (#494345) Subject: Lyr Add: I'M A LONELY LITTLE PETUNIA IN AN ONION.. From: Pene Azul Here's the version from the link above: I'M A LONELY LITTLE PETUNIA IN AN ONION PATCH The Happy Gang Of all the saddest words That I have ever heard The saddest is the story Told me by a bird He had spent about and hour Chatting with a flower and here ís the tale the flower told I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and all I do is cry all day Boo hoo, boo hoo The air ís so strong it takes my breath away I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me Who put me in this bed? I'll bet his face is red I call him down with every teardrop that I shed If I only had him here I'd take him by the ear And make him share my misery I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and all I do is cry all day Boo hoo, boo hoo The air ís so strong it takes my breath away (Feee-you!) I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me My nerves begin to crack Each time I see a track Made by a kitty with a stripe right down his back If he ever stopped by me, I think I'd rather be A dead petunia, wouldn't you? Ooooh he ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch He ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch And all he does is cry all day Boo hoo, boo hoo The air ís so strong it takes my breath away. (Feee-you!) I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me |

13 Jul 19 - 08:32 PM (#4000634) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm a Lonely Little Petunia in an Onion.. From: GUEST,One who had to sing it as "the petunia" Since I had the role of "the petunia" in about 1st or second grade...it went something like this: I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch. I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, and all I do is cry all day.... Boo hoo-oo, boo hoo-oo, and all I do is cry all day. I am sure there is a second verse, but this is all I seem to remember. And the worst part was I was so scared to sing in front of all those people (parents of the class), I ended up forgetting the lyrics and DID cry all day! That was 55 years ago, but I can remember it like it happened just last year. Funny, the things we remember.... |
