They are on the web.... they have a BP special for less than 100.00 US.
(shape is a "little strange") |

15 Mar 00 - 07:55 AM (#195287) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: Grab I've seen a balalaika-shaped guitar in shops in Britain. Very transportable (it's only as wide as a fiddle, and not much longer), but it doesn't sound too good though. Grab. |

15 Mar 00 - 08:35 AM (#195317) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: JedMarum best one available is the Larrivee Parlor guitar. It costs about 320 USD. It sound like a real guitar ... a good real guitar. They are at Larrivee.com or click here. I'm prejudice; I own one, and love it! |

16 Mar 00 - 06:19 AM (#195962) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au There was a nice little guitar called the "Vagabond" which was about the size of a Martin BP; but better shaped so it sounded better and was easier to hold. Unfortunately the outfit (Stringsmith) seems to have gone out of business but I have read on guitar newsgroups that people are picking them up second hand for not too high a price. Murray |

16 Mar 00 - 01:47 PM (#196208) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: Whistle Stop I mentioned the Baby Taylor in another thread on a similar topic; it's a good, small-scale instrument available at a reasonable price ($250 Us dollars retail, more or less). Worth checking out when you're looking over one of the Larrivee Parlor guitars someone else mentioned (I love Larrivees, and play mine often). You'll find that the Larrivee and Taylor are not quite as knapsack-friendly as a Martin Backpacker, but the sound and playability are much better. Good luck. |

19 Mar 00 - 07:53 PM (#197843) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: JedMarum Doug R - well I have been out of pocket for a few days; 2 in Phoenix then buried with a series of Saint Patrick Day gigs. I did go to Phoneix, and did play at the Fiddler's Dream Open Stage on Thursday night. As it happens I may be back there on Wednesday night, this week (ie., Mar 22). I'll post confirmation to this thread if I can be there Wed. I did book a show there in May, and will be there for a ful evening on Sun, May 21. So if we don't meet this week, I hope to see you then. |

20 Mar 00 - 07:09 PM (#198306) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: DougR Great Jed, I'll be there Wednesday night if you will email me at rdr70d@netscape.net and let me know for sure. Maybe Gargoyle will join us too. DougR |

20 Mar 00 - 09:56 PM (#198392) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: JedMarum I will certainly be in Phoenix on Wed evening, and I will bring my guitar ... I hope to be able to get away to the Fiddler's Dream Coffeehouse, but don't know that for sure, at this time. It is not likely, however that I cannot. Still I will Email as soon as I know for sure, and update this thread, as well. |

21 Mar 00 - 01:56 AM (#198504) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: DougR Well, Jed, I'll just mosey on over to the Fiddler's Dream and if you are not there, Gargoyle can entertain me! DougR |

22 Mar 00 - 06:17 PM (#199402) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: GUEST,jed - who is in PHX and must be a guest I am in town, and at my customer's site. I am expecting I'll be free to stop by the Fiddler's Dream tonight at 8PM. I expect to bring one of my colleagues with me. It is still possible, however; that I will be side tracked by a dinner meeting ... that is still unclear, at the moment. I suspect I won't know in time to let you know, but I will send notice as soon as I know. |

23 Mar 00 - 11:15 AM (#199906) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: JedMarum OK, OK, I am very sorry. The least expected thing happened and I couldn't make the Fiddler's Dream last night. I am sorry if I put any of y'all out ... but I am sure you got to see a great show anyway. The Fiddler's Dream really is a great place, and I have always enjoed the Open Stage night there. As luck would have it, at the last minute I had to change my plans and head back for Dallas. I will normally have definite plans on the business trips, and therefore know for sure what my schedule is, but yesterday's trip was a bit different (hence my comments earlier in the thread, about hoping to be able to get there). It does look like I'll be visiting regularly, and I will be able to predict with more certainty my schedule in the future. Again, I hope I didn; put anyone out too much, and I look forward to getting back and visiting with y'all soon. |

23 Mar 00 - 11:33 AM (#199923) Subject: RE: Knapsack Guitars From: DougR No problem, Jed. I stayed until about 9:30 PM and it appeared that everyone who was going to perform had done so by then so I left. I'll catch you next time. I don't think Gargoyle was there though I couldn't say for sure of course. Everyone seemed to know one another so if he was there, he must (or she) be a regular. I'll catch you on May 21 if not before. DougR |
