Gates From: Little Neophyte Well Shambles, if it was Mr. Gates, I do not think Bill could have possible picked out such lovely notes as you hear in the original tune If by David. Microsoft Corporation most likely would want to select something from a military march theme to represent their cause. Little Neo |
08 Nov 09 - 01:42 PM (#2762214) Subject: Lyr Add: IF (David Gates, recorded by Bread) From: Jim Dixon Found on the Internet and checked against the recording shown below: IF Words & Music by David Gates of Bread (c) 1971 Sony / ATV Tunes LLC If a picture paints a thousand words, then why can't I paint you? The words will never show The you I've come to know. If a face could launch a thousand ships, then where am I to go? There's no one home but you. You're all that's left me too. And when my love for life is running dry, You'll come and pour yourself on me. If a man could be two places at one time, I'd be with you Tomorrow and today, Beside you all the way. If the world should stop revolving, spinning slowly down to die, I'd spend the end with you, And when the world was through, Then one by one, the stars would all go out, Then you and I would simply fly away. [YouTube doesn't seem to have the original, but you can find several "covers" of this song, mostly self-produced by unknowns. This one is pretty decent.] |

The melody is lovely, the only good thing about the song. I remember that Telly Savalas, in his wisdom, discarded the melody and used only the words in his recording. |
