There was a movie I saw recently (have no idea what it was) and this little song ran at the end--it was enchanting. I put the closed captioning on and voila! there were the words. Will go a-hunting, though, cuz I'd like to find this one, too. Will let you know if/when I find anything. |

Called either She Lyin' or Sea Lion (seems to be up to you as to what the first 2 words are as there are several different opinions on this), written by Christeen Shipp and Katherine Shipp in 1939 in Mississippi? It's called "The Slave's Consolation" but they have it listed under the "C" section: "Come listen all you darkies, come listen to my song..." Put a lump in my throat. I had just run into it lately and loved the lyrics. Figures I would find folks here who'd not only heard of it but performed it! It must've been a blast to sing it with a choir. Well, yes, actually, do you know of any good recordings of it?? I'd love to hear it. I've been singing it around the house for the past few days, but it's my very own version and I'm sure it doesn't sound like what it's supposed to sound like! |
