From: Alan of Australia G'day, The Penguin threads have nothing to do with Linux, they are inspired by Ed Pellow who provided all the tunes (in MIDI format) for The Penguin Book Of English Folk Songs, edited by Ralph Vaughan Williams and A.L.Lloyd. As I have a copy of the book and a scanner I'm providing words where the DT doesn't have this version. The Penguin threads are all linked, so that doing a forum search on 'penguin' will find all the songs, and the tune for each song. Go into a thread & follow some of the links & you'll see what I mean.

The English one (1959) was published in 1959, edited by Ralph Vaughan Williams and A.L. Lloyd; and the Canadian one (1973) was edited by Edith Fowke. I don't know anything about the editors of the Australian songbooks, Volume 1 (1964), by J.S. Manifold; and Volume 2 (1980), Bill Scott. I just got the second Australian book this week, and I'm still gloating. These books are real treasures. Alan is doing us a great service by posting the songs and tunes from the English book. That has some great poems in it, and if I can bring it in from out of the toilet, I'd give you some titles. OK, my secret is out, I keep the poetry books in the bathroom.... - people were spending far too much time in there with novels and newspapers - poetry is much better, short, snappy and to the point, unless you are in there for a protracted bout of Ancient Mariners..... but anyway, the English book of Penguin folksongs has been well thumbed, and deserves to be more widely known.
