I haven't seen anyone discussing this. Will there be one?

Well I'm sure as heck gonna be there! I got all these songs I want to play! BTW is there going to be a topic, or is it an "open mike" kinda deal? In any case, let me ask you ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?

Good question, Mbo. It's a little late to be looking for songs for a particular topic. Yesterday was a full moon here. Might I suggest "Full Moon Frenzy." This would allow songs about the moon and mythical associations to the moon. It would allow just about anything else, because you could blame it on the moon's influence. ("I was looking at the moon last night, and it came to me that this Jimmy Hendrix tune would sound great on a banjo.") It could mean something completely different to, say, Catspaw.

The usual? 7:30, or maybe a little earlier? HereBe HearMe. I have the page bookmarked in my browser - if you do this, you won't need to look for a clicky each time.

Alas! Alas! and Alackaday! I shall be unable to partake of the festivities!

More's the pity, I have to go to a church fund-raising dinner with She Who Must Be Obeyed tonight. See (hear) you all another time.

Jeri -- I tried to bookmark that and it said the page was no longer available, then took me back to theTripod home page. Was that where I needed to be? And if so, what do I do once I get there?

I'll try to be there tonight, if my funky browser (oooh, a new character name..."Hi, I'm Funky Browser and I'll be your server tonight...") will let me stay online.

How late did you folks go? I checked in a minute ago, but couldn't get in, so I figured the party was over. I was fairly certain I'd missed it, but thought I'd check it out. How long do these singing soirees usually last?

I give up. I tried to do it again and couldn't get anything but a blank gray box. Tried to e-mail Jon, as the instructions said and the message bounced back saying he was an unknown addressee.

I think this is not in the cards for me... I have my cool little microphone and everything.

Well, I got bounced out again, but if it's still going I'll try again. Is it my server, or just the thing in general???

Canoerm my mic is RadioShack and I just told them what I was doing and they handed me this. It was about $25, the Cat. No. on mine is 33-3025A01A0. It requires two AAA batteries, plugs into the back of your computer and you're good to go.

I don't how how good it sounds...could you hear me ok, and was i too close to the mic, etc.? I haven't a clue about how loud it sounds, etc., so feed back would be welcomed...

This is a tantalyzingly cool technology. It isn't quite "there" yet, but what possibiilties it represents.

WW - just checking my last post. Occasioanally people do get bounced for no reason and I have no idea why that shold be - just try agian maybe it will let you stay - failing that, you would have to ask hearme why it should be.

Technology, I agree it isnt quite there yet but if all is workng well, the sound can be pretty good.

Well, it's just really exciting to know we're singing to each other and visiting, literally, all around the world.

I did get back in, so it's just an intermittent problem. Maybe it's the wind. We have a suprlus of that here in Wyoming.

Thanks all, this was fun. And if you're thinking about trying this, jump in: The water's fine!

Well, it just ended. WyoWoman closed it with a beautiful rendition of "Wayfaring Stranger."
Let's see what I can recall singing:
Mother's Last Words to her Daughter
Power in the Blood
Somos El Barco
Step By Step
Paddy on the Railway
Old Black Joe
Long, Long Ago
An Irish Blessing

It's 10 PM. Now can I quit and go eat dinner?
It was wonderful tonight. Thanks for hosting it, Jon. Love to your Mum.

I didn't make it until about 9:45 EST, but it was worth it.

I sang Mo Mary,
The Klan,
Zebra Dun
Ilkley Moor,
and The Young Farmer Who Went to the City.

I keep thinking I'm going to run out of repertoire, but those good old songs I learned forty years ago or so keep coming back! But pretty soon I'm going to have to get some fresh material.

I had to leave 'early', but I did a grim Green Irish thing called "One Sunday Morning"....not something you're likely to hear on a record...

I sang a parody of Wild Rover. I neglected to say it was written by Joe Bethancourt. Lyrics here

I played Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine because Bill Sables asked for it. (But he ganned oot before I got to it.) Also Sonny's Mazurka - probably too fast.

Thread Creep Alert! Thread Creep Alert!

On a CD I bought recently, called something like "North Carolina Banjo", there's a tune called "The Old Doctor Fell in the Well." There is a comment that "The doctor should have stuck to the sick, and left the well alone!"
