I heard part of it recently on The Irish in America show that aired on CBC. It later was carried to Ireland and went into tradition. A few people have recorded it including Mick Moloney, who he tells me he may be doing so again this year. I'm sure there has been a thread about Muldoon... I think started by me when I was looking into it.

I belive it was on the Mick Maloney album that I originally heard the song and then when I watched the show the other night I just caught the end of the song. Its amazing how things come back to you and I couldn't get it out of my head for days and was singing it so much that the kids joined in with me on a trip out in the truck the other day. If memory serves, the verses and chourus have the same melody. Am I right in that? Maybe Dan would know. Thanks again Den. |

On the subject of Muldoon; Don Meade did an article on the song and others associated with it in the (I think) New York Review of History - I have it by me but have put it somewhere sensible and characteristically only start looking when I've started writing. Speaking about Ned Harrigian, Bob Conroy and I have worked up a Harrigan song and, if we get bold, we will uncork it in Inishowen. Harrigan (1845-1911) grew up on the Lower East Side his writing is a first-hand report.
