Lyric Quote of the Day

Subject: Lyric Quote of the Day
From: Mbo

Horslips time!

Precious stones and stolen thrones vanish in a day
And your golden rings, your silver rings
Will crumble and decay
Silks and satins and crimson velvet
Will someday fade away
But the stones will stand across the land
And love will have its day.

Change will come to everyone
Never question why
Sticks and stones will break your bones
And words will make you cry
The sun will shiver, the moon will crumble
And vanish from the sky
But the hills remain, love's the same
Love will never die.

I can see the lights below us
Twinkle like the stars
And I know they're waiting patiently
For the day to break again.

Distant skies, different eyes
Change has come so fast
And a mother-of-pearl distant girl
Clutches at the past
But in the sunset I see your eyes
And they tell me nothing's lost
While the rocks remain, loves the same,
Strong love will last

a bit more somber then yesterday, but ending upbeat with hope. That's the way to look at things. Lovely lyrics.

Try this song, too - FOR REAL, by Bob Franke.

There's a hole in the middle of the prettiest life,
So the lawyers and prophets say.
Not your father nor your mother,
Nor your lover's gonna ever make it go away.
And there's too much darkness in an endless night
To be afraid of the way we feel:
Let's be kind to each other,
Not forever, but for real.

I was just reminded of it because Mike Regenstreif played it on his CKUT show. Mbo, if you haven't heard anything by him, I think you'd like his music. He is one of the most powerful introspective songwriters I've heard, and most leave me cold. (The word "introspective" coupled with "songwriter" strikes fear into my heart most of the time.) He focuses on his Christian beliefs and love - for him the two subjects are probably not separate. A search for his songs in the DT yields these.

Check out this from Hard Love:

Now I'm standing in this phone booth with a dollar and a dime
Wondering what to say to you to ease your troubled mind
For the Lord's cross might redeem us but our own just waste our time
And to tell the two apart is always hard love
