Is it possible the machine I use has an automatic purge function for "foreign" things like cookies? david |

Buried int here somewhere is a setting for cookies. Yours in probably set to never accept them. You can change it to always accept or prompt before accepting. It used to be easy to find to change the setting, but I just downloaded and installed the newest version of IE and had to really hunt in the Internet Options for them. Finally found them under Security, then Custom Options or Settings. (Sorry can't remember which.) Hope that is clearer than mud! kat |

From: Jon Freeman kat, Assuming we are talking Internet Explorer 5, as you said, you go to Tools/Internet Options and Click on the Security Tab. You then make sure that you are changing the correct zone - in this case click on Internet. Any of the default security settings except High Security will accept cookies (the default setting for the Internet Zone is to use Medium security). It a Custom setting rather than a preset default is used on for this zone, it may be necessary to click the Custom button and adjust the settings for cookies as you described. I have not tried this but as far as I can see, for those who don't like cluttering their machine with cookies but want to use the Mudcat cookie, it may be possible to block cookies on the Internet zone and set Mudcat up as a trusted site and alter the settings for that zone to suit. It simply won't allow the cookie to reset and I am aways a guest. Making Mudcat into a trusted site has worked as expected so if anybody using IE 5 who would accept the Mudcat cookie but no others could adopt the approach I suggested. Jon |

It told me any sites i wanted to enter as trusted HAD to use the https addy, so I put that in for the Mudcat and a couple of others and I still had to tell it to accept, next time. BUT, I've noticed if I tell it to accept the Mudcat once, when prompted, then I don't have to do it, again. thanks, kat |

From: Bill D well, I still have the strange situation that, if I come DIRECTLY to the forum, my cookie is fine, but if I go to the www.mudcat.org page, where it takes an extra click to get to the forum, my cookie is no longer recognized!,It is still there, just not seen, and I have to go back out and come in the other way. |
