That's an easy one. We've discussed this before, and the Sheet Music is at The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music SWEET EVELINA. As to authorship, all I have EVER found, including asking scholars who would know if ANYONE knew, was Words by M., Melody by T. That is likely the best anyone is ever going to do since it was published in 1863.

To find the earlier discussions, just put Evelina in the search box. Evalina might pull you up some threads, too.

I think the reference for EVELINA has gone beyond our search engine's capabilities, but the one with an A, can still be located, just set the filter to three years.

I know the melody to this tune, I have midi files but don't know how to work them. I can sing and play the song for you on the guitar and mail you a copy of it if you like. just leave me your address and I will send them off. Got this tune from Phil Winslow in Mapleton Maine about three years ago. Hoping to hear from you. Dewaine

I posted the abc notation in one of the Missing Tunes threads. No chords, tho. Can you read/translate abc? If so, I will go find it, and post it here.

Can't help with notes, but you can hear it played here:

Go down to 1863 and click it on.

I have put up a Real Audio of Sweet Evalena/Evalina/Evelina by Lulu Belle and Scotty. It is what I call an orphan file, as there are no links to the song on my pages, just here.

Since I already have a picture of L&S on my experimental picture page, here is the location for that. No extra charge for the pics of Patsy Montana, Grandpa Jones, Ian Tyson, and The Magnolia Sisters who all happen to be on that page at the moment ~~ tomorrow, who knows who'll be there?

I also have recordings by The Blue Sky Boys and by Kenny Baker (guitar, not fiddle!) and Josh Graves, if anyone is interested.

Sondy: All the above advice in this thread will serve you well. I taught myself the song and I play it in C and G7 but it will be different for dulcimer. Good luck and it's a great song. I sing it often at reenactments. Kindest reguards, Neil
