My local folk club - Folk At The Globe, Topsham, Devon would like to contact Barry Dransfield to offer a booking but are having difficulty finding him. Can anybody help locate him, or Barry, if you're there.........please get in touch.

Incidently we meet every Sunday at 8.30 pm - mainly singers nights with occassional guests (when we can find them!) Singers and audience always welcome.

According to his current label, Rhiannon Records, he's in Hastings.  Have you tried contacting them?  Their website is at:  http://www.rhiannonrecords.co.uk/text/home.html

Send me your e-mail address and I'll pass it on to him. I don't know if he wants his address public or not.

He is in the process of moving houses recently & may be busy but is probably ok by now.

He's been in Hastings for a long time - almost as long as the Jack in the Green..... He appeared at Towersey either last year or the one before and is sounding better than ever - any sign of the old trouble has gone, and he did a darn sight better than Martin Carthy who buggered up two songs in one set!!

Mrs Caseys' music might be able to help with a contact address or agent.

I think I may have made a Ricket, is it the singer/guitar player or the Fiddler/singer you are after???? I can NEVER remember which is which. The singer/Guitar player was who I was referring to when I said I "understood he was in Cornwall" the fiddle player/singer is as Liz tS said , in Hastings.

A ricket is a ricket-ache - rhyming slang for a mistake.

I always confuse Robin and Barry - which one is in Hastings, and is the other in Cornwall?

Still rate "Tidewave" as one of my favourite albums, though.

I once borrowed a very bad cassette dupe of "Rout of the Blues" and fell in love with the whole album. Any ideas where one might find a copy of those great old recordings? I picked up the retrospective CD, very nice of course, but just a tease, if you know what I mean. I've been told that "Rout of the Blues" is something of a Holy Grail for Lp collectors. I hope that's not the case.

Rout of the Blues was on the Trailer label, so is now presumably locked away in the vaults of Celtic Music, with little prospect of re-release.  Secondhand vinyl does turn up -Rockinworld has a VG copy listed at $30,  here, but better condition would probably cost a good bit more.  You could try emailing Little Pot Stove Records ( jdalton@easynet.co.uk) in case they can help.

I've only stumbled upon this thread now, a year and a half after the last entry about "Rout Of The Blues" was posted, so this may be old news but: You can now get a CD of it - the contact address on the cover is: C M Distribution, North Works, Hookstone Park, Harrogate, Yorkshire HG2 7DB. Or there's a folk retail site that can supply it: www.musikfolk.com I can pass messages on to Barry if anyone wants me to, but he's a very private person, is not on the internet or email, and he may not want to get into any dialogues. Still, one can but ask. He has talked about a new album he's working on, so I'll pass on whatever info he'll let me, when there are some hard facts.

Hi Ralph - Amazing! I was just surfing around in your thread to see if I could find a way of contacting you about the Threadbare Consort, and also about an ancient Nic cassette I have. Can you email me at the address above?

Will someone please put me out of my misery and tell me how to contact individuals off-line (if there's a way) so I don't keep disrupting this list! Thanks -

Hear from you soon I hope B xxx

Bonnie-

To PM (send a personal message to) someone, go to the page where the thread titles are listed. In the top right-hand corner you will see a drop-down menu that says "Quick Links." Click on this and drag down to "Send a Personal Message." It should be fairly self-explanatory from there. You can read your own personal messages (a benefit of membership) by clicking on "Personal Pages" at the banner at the top of every page in Mudcat.

More wonderful information about using this place is available by reading the Mudcat FAQ permathread (the top thread).

Hope this helps and Welcome to Mudcat!!

Yowsa! Ned's message has just made me recall a memorable evening many, many moons ago playing music with Packie in Ardara!

Bonnie, you're reviving many pleasant memories here!

And Tim, sorry to highjack your thread with all this excitement! I do hope you managed to get the necessary info to contact Barry. The Dransfields were a big influence during my "formative period" (which has never actually finished!)

All the best.

I saw Barry at Beverley FF a couple of years back.
I never managed to see him in the 70's.
By the way Tim, give my regards to Pete the Heckler, I may descend on Topsham after Crediton FF.

Good heavens Vic, how things change! Last I heard he had a workshop in Hastings - mind you, that was around the time of the release of 'Unruly'.

A real shame that such a brilliant performer maintains such a low profile.

Barry is in one of those phases in his life when he values isolation.

His prerogative, of course!

One of the best evenings I ever had was at the Royal Oak in Grimsby when Barry played there in the early '90s - phenomenal playing and singing. However, it's pointless being forced out to play if it's not what one wants to do. I wish Barry well in whatever he has chosen for himself.

Stumbled across this thread today. I have also being trying to trace Barry, I nearly caught up with him in Hasting several years ago but I think he had just moved to France. My interest is due to our friendship at school in the 50s/60s. If anyone is in touch with Barry could they just mention the incident of the blackboard rubber in a physics class around 1964, I'm sure it will bring back some interesting memories for him from our semi-educational escapades.
