I'd be surprised if Richard Robinson's Tune book didn't have it. That site is too slow right now to be able to check.

The URL is:-

http://celtic.stanford.edu/pub/tunes/RRTunebook/

Search for county down (NOT country).

Cheers,
Alan

Try these:

Near (Em) Bambridge Town in the (C) County (D) Down
One (Em) mornin' last Ju- (D) ly
Down the (Em) boreen came a (C) sweet col- (D) leen
And she (Em) smiled as she (Am) passed me (Em) by.
She (G) looked so sweet from her (D) two bare feet ,
To the (Em) crown of her nut-brown (D) hair.
Such a (Em) winsome elf that I (C) pinched my- (D) self
For to (Em) see I was (Am) really (Em) there.

Use the chords from the last four lines in the chorus. I hope this helps.

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 4-May-03.

These chords will sound better to some people:

Near (Em) Banbridge Town in the (G) County (D) Down
One (Em) mornin' last Ju- (Bm) ly,
Down the (Em) boreen came a (G) sweet col- (D) leen
And she (Em) smiled as she (Am) passed me (Em) by.
She (G) looked so sweet from her (D) two bare feet
To the (Em) crown of her nut-brown (Bm) hair.
Such a (Em) winsome elf that I (G) pinched my- (D) self
For to (Em) see I was (Am) really (Em) there.

Cheers,
Alan

Thanks Alan. They sound much better than what I was using.

the sets of words (first verses) here are all good - I've heard - and I sing -variations on these, but no important differences; In some sources there are a lot of verses, which would probably bore many audiences - think I got mine from a Soodlum's - we moved recently and most of mystuff is not disorganised, but still in a box - at any rate the f1st, 2nd and last verses usu work well

I usually hear it sung as "bowling green".

A "Boreen" is a rough track or road. Literally, in Irish, it means "small road".
