Happy! - March 31, 2000

Happy Birthday!

According to his biographer, Peter Schickele, PDQ Bach was born on this day in 1742.

Of far greater importance, but a similar year,

Sam Hinton

was born in Tulsa

March 31, 1917

(I doubt posting this will detract from the upcoming Biography - I think there's a whole lot more to say about Sam.)

My dear old mother was also born on this day -- 5 years prior to Sam. 88 years old and going strong! we should all be so lucky.

Also mymother's birthday, though she's only 69.  She's quite pleased at having missed being an April Fool by a day!

Happy Birthday, George III
(King 1760-1820)

born June 4th, 1738
(died insane 1/29/1820)

The Antelope sailed on this day in 1738.  We know that from:

Oh the year was seventeen seventy eight
I wish I was in Sherbrooke now!
A letter of marque came from the King
To the scummiest vessel I've ever seen.
               ----------------------------
On the King's birthday we put to sea.
I wish I was in Sherbrooke now!
    Etc.

Cool musical detective work, Abby! Now you've got me humming "G** D*** them all....")

Thanks, Abby. As a result of your post, I did some searching and found that if it weren't for "Mad King George," we'd probably be drinking a lot more tea, complaining about New Labor Party, and spelling a lot of words wrong.

Well if the rest of the empire is anything to go by we'd have been given back to the natives about forty years ago;-)
