Last session's WAS great fun. There's an Echo songbook, lyrics really, and a copy of the table of contents is put out for each person to check off 5 songs they want to sing. The as-many-as-we-have-time-for with the most checkmarks are the ones on the program. It is definitely a time for voices to unite. One of the co-conductors is a great pianist, and someone who came last time knew the most wonderful accompaniment to "Solidarity Forever." So, if guitars are lacking or unsure of leadership, we can count on Becca and people who've come for the singing. Or we just belt it out! |

03 Apr 00 - 04:45 AM (#205950) Subject: RE: BS: Potluck Singalong Announcement From: Crowhugger HF, To answer your question, I believe that one of the co-directors gets indigestion doing a fast tally after dessert while the other directors leads the choir in 3 songs. Rule number 1: count the number of dotted songs to make sure it's more than 20! People can have bandwagon tendencies sometimes. It's not so bad; we're set up for it. There are BIG **no, I'm not yelling ;-)** pages with the songs listed and a separate long narrow sheet for the dots hung beside it. So the same song list is used at each fundraiser. Only the dot-strips need to be replaced. It's pretty funny to watch the odd person put all 5 of their dots on one song it the hopes it gets in. Which it does. We have a few people who like to pick difficult or obscure songs from the section called "Echo Favourites." The title of this section means that some are quick-success numbers and others required good hard work to learn. Someone always puts their 5 dots beside one of the trickier ones and cajoles a friend into doing the same with another. Then they'll teach it to the roomful of song lovers. BTW, the tables are laid out in 3 rows to make easy marking of sections for rounds, always popular at these things. Bigger BTW: it was grand fun and a smashing success! Next time (autumn term, probably in late October or early November before Seasonal Spending Disorder sets in) I'll try to announce it sooner for those in the area. Ya had to be there to hear so many voices beautify "Wild Mountain Thyme." And to see a most peculiar array of home-made percussion instruments. CH |

Thanks for letting us know about it. Any chance anyone made a tape you could send into Max for the radio program? Or that we could buy individually? T'anks, kat |
