...Jon...I always wondered if Aly Bain was named for this song. As clannish as families were then, perhaps Aly and "Alain Bain" shared alot of DNA...Alan Bain has a firstname, so surely it's about someone in the 18th or 19th century. I guess I should look it up on BruceO's website....

I must admit that I had not heard of this song. I just did a search to see what came up. Perhaps someone else might have some suggestions.

A worse confession: While I realise that BruceO's website is an excellent resorce, I seem to be too stupid to get much out of it. One day, I will go there and work it all out.

I think that Aly is probably short for Alistair or Alasdair - altho' I don't know that for a fact...

Tell you what I'll make a fool of myself by posting this now.. and then go and find out...
