It is a parody of Stan Rogers's Barretts Privateers. I heard it on the radio once. The words go something like, "...How I wish I'd never tried it now (How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now)... ...But it's a foolish man who shows no fear at a glass of Garnet's homemade beer (Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's Privateers.)" Thank you, Katherine BTW - I would appreciate it if responses could be emailed at katherine_belyea@hotmail.com, because I don't have much time to come here. |

Oh, the year was nineteen seventy-eight
CHORUS: God damn them all, I was told
Oh, Garnet Rogers cried the town
This motley crew was a sickening sight
Well, we hadn't been there but an hour or two
Now Steeleye Stan was a frightening man
Stan took one sip and pitched on his side
So here I lay in my twenty-third beer |
