I can't find any evidence that there is a song by that name. Allmusic.com doesn't mention it. Neither does Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Barnes & Noble, The BMI Repertoire, The Folk Music Index, Gracenote, or The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music ...(How many more must I try?)

What can you tell us about this song? Where did you hear it? Can you quote any lines from it? Who sings it? How old is it? Can you find any web site that mentions it?

I wrote to the town itself to ask if they knew anything about it at all. If and/or when they reply, I'll post here.

This Website makes me thing that Alva Glen must be quite a beautiful place. I didn't see signs of a song there, but I didn't explore the Website completely.

Just received from their webmaster:

"I will forward this [my request about lyrics or did anyone ever hear of the song, etc] onto our members to see if anyone knows of this
song.

Have a Merry Christmas"

I sent best wishes back. Nice they didn;'t forget us.

How about this?

Water Under The Bridge

In writing this, I am reminded of a song (to the tune of "Galway Bay") told to me by my father:-

Some day I'll cross the border back to Scotland;
Tho' it may be when I am three scores years and ten;
Once again to see the moon rise over Stirling;
Or to see the sun go down on Alva Glen.

Once again to see the splendour of the Ochils;
The winding road that leads right up to Perth;
Or to sit beside a trout stream near Dumyat
And know you're on the finest land on Earth.

Oh, the English came and tried to take it from us,
At Bannockburn we fought their legions down;
But we might as well have let them win the battle,
For Scotland now is ruled from London town.

The winds that blow across the fields of Scotland
Are scented by the heather as they blow
And the highlanders up North all speak a language;
Yes, a language that the English do not know.

They say there's going to be a life hereafter
And if that's so I'll give the Lord my thanks.
If he'll grant my wish and let me make my heaven
There in Scotland on Loch Lomonds bonnie banks

Hi, Angela -
I combined the two threads to attempt to minimize confusion. The post from George Seto is certainly not the song you're looking for, and we don't know enough about Jamie's request to know what song Jamie is seeking.
So, let's keep all the "Alva Glen" stuff in this thread.

My grandfather used to sing this song to me when I was about 4 or 5 years old. (Much to my parents disaprovement) :-)

Take yer nice wee hen awa tae Alva Glenl, that's the place tae spoon
Take yer nice wee hen awa tae Alva Glen and there in the heather lay her doon
If ye can cuddle and ye can squeeze ye can tell her a' the lees and there in the heather lay her doon, lay her doon....

I am now 64 so can't remember any more!
