Yes, folks, you still got time! Cathy Barton and Dave Para will be at the 38th Annual Arkansas Folk Festival in Mountain View, Arkansas, this weekend, so hop in your car and get on down (up?) here!

Those who have been here before know that there is virtually wall to wall music all over town during the Folk Festival, on the Square, at the Center, in the Tent . . . just about everywhere! So bring your guitars, banjos, fiddles, autoharps, whatever you got. Then you got your parade, your craft shows, your rodeo, you name it, we probably got it!

There will be Special Music Shows at The Ozark Folk Center (7:30PM Thursday, Friday, Saturday), Cash's White River Hoedown (7:30PM Thursday, Friday, Saturday), The Jimmy Driftwood Barn (7PM Friday, Sunday), and The Mountain View Folklore Society (7PM Friday, Saturday).

Friday at the Ozark Folk Center
Harmony, Jamie Brown, Dave & Ida Brancecum, Featherstone, Gospel Harvesters, Mary Herndon, Cathy Barton & Dave Para.

Saturday at the Ozark Folk Center
The Leatherwoods, Wildflower String Band, J. C. Bonds, Ida & Friends, Dave Smith, The Nelson Family, Cathy Barton & Dave Para

Except for one that I have never heard, I can definitely recommend them all ~~ great old time string bands, gospel, a little bluegrass, some hammer dulcimer, and all of it worth the trip ~~ start packin'!

Go to Mountain View anyhow, but Cathy and Dave have had to cancel their participation. Dave stuck his left hand through a glass-front cabinet (tripped over a guitar case in the dark) and ended up with a radial artery puncture that required several hours of surgery. He'll be all right, thank God, but it will be a wee while before we'll hear his fine guitar work again. Perhaps only a few weeks, hopefully.

For those of us in the Northeast, Dave and Cathy will be touring with Ed Trickett in May. Friends of Fiddler's Green in Hyde Park, NY, on Friday, the 12th, Sounding Board in Hartford, CT on Saturday, 13th. They'll also be doing the North Stonington, CT, "gig from Heaven" on the following Sunday. I can't remember the date of their Boston appearance, but someone will surely provide it here.

Sandy

Sorry to hear that ~~ I was certainly looking forward to seeing them again. I hadn't talked to Arkie lately or I likely would already have known. I suspect that I will be up there Saturday all the same. (Got a track meet at Heber Springs on Friday or I would make both nights)

As Sandy says, come anyway, there'll be plenty of music going on.

Oh mi god, REALLY hope it heals OK, leave it to a musician to trip over a case in the dark, we just can't remember where we put them when the lights went out. Well, will talk to Lynne in Sept. at Winfield anyway. I just always wanted to go to Mtn Veiw even if there is nothing goin on at the time. Sucky!!

Hey, Sandy, are Barton, Para and Trickett getting any closer to NYC than New Hyde Park?

There are still plenty of reasons to come to Mountain View. No one will miss Cathy and Dave more than I, but good friends of theirs, Bob & Melissa Atchison and Bob & Pat Momich will be filling in for them. Sorcha, there will be dulcimers all over the place April 20 - 23 during the annual Dulcimer Jamboree. There will be workshops and concerts by Cyntia Smith, Ken Kolodner, David Moran, Don Pedi, and lots of others.

...Dale and Arkie (who are you, by the way???), have a wonderful time at MT VW again this year! It has been several years since I have been back and I miss it terribly. Bill Erskine will be there on the square all weekend singing and playing in his wonderful deep bass voice! Oh, how I miss the MT VW people who have passed on, as well. Enjoy!!!! harpgirl

Harpgirl - I must confess to being Elliott Hancock. Have been in Mountain View for almost 30 years and much of that time hanging out at the Ozark Folk Center.
