16 Apr 00 - 01:50 AM (#212531) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Joan Baez lyrics From: BlueJay Slight misunderstanding here. GUEST, MICKEY is looking for the lyrics to the song titled "Best of Friends", which is on her Best of Joan Baez album. I've tried searching the lyric sites that I know, with no success. One such site states they only list the songs written by her, so it's very possible someone else wrote the song. It isn't in the DT that I can find. MICKEY- if I were you, and no clever Mudcatter can come up with the lyrics, I would go to www.amazon.com where the album is listed as in stock and ships in 24 hours. Wish I had it, I'd transcribe it for you. Good Luck, BlueJay |

16 Apr 00 - 10:39 PM (#212898) Subject: ADD: Best of Friends (Mimi Farina)^^ From: Joe Offer THE BEST OF FRIENDS (Mimi Fariña) We may not always be the best of lovers But if you leave it to me, I think I can see We'll always be The best of friends. And one day, when I am old and on the porch, With knittings around my knees, You'll hear me say, "Excuse me, please, But aren't you the one, and wasn't it fun Way back when?" Or maybe in a year, you'll reappear And if that should come true, I'd throw my arms around you, And watch you smile, just for a while, Once again. [instrumental break] We may not always be the best of lovers But if you leave it to me, I think I can see We'll always be The best of friends. La, la, la, la… The best of friends. La, la, la, la…(fade) JRO^^ |

16 Apr 00 - 11:08 PM (#212909) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Joan Baez lyrics From: Joe Offer This is what Fariña says on her own 1986 "Solo" album: I was lonely performing in snowy Boulder, Colorado, attempting a new career move without my singing partner, Tom Jans. On a sleepless night I sat bolt upright in bed at 3:00 AM in the Boulderado Hotel and wrote this song that I now dedicate to Tom's memory, regretfully.I couldn't find a date when Fariña wrote the song, but Baez recorded it in 1973. I think I read somewhere that Mimi Fariña was suffering from some kind of cancer. Can anybody confirm that? There was a Bread and Roses concert in San Francisco last month, but I skipped it because the tickets were very pricey. sounds like it was a good concert, but somehow it doesn't seem right to listen to folk music at the San Francisco Opera House (Fariña is the founder of Bread and Roses, which provides free concerts for prisoners and others). -Joe Offer- |
