Greetings,

I'm looking for the publisher of "It's a Pleasure to Know You" by Carl Williams. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked at BMI and ASCAP, Mary, and couldn't find the song listed under the title, or under Karl or Carl Williams. On their recordings of the song, both Sally Rogers and Faith Petric spell the name of the songwriter "Karl Williams," so I think the listing in the database is spelled incorrectly. The song appears in Volume 33, #2 of Sing Out! Magazine. My collection doesn't go back that far. Maybe somebody else can find that issue of the magazine for you - or maybe somebody here knows Karl Williams??

Last I heard, he was living in Harrisburg, PA. Wanna try the old "information" route via telephone? Call the guy and get the data direct from the horse's mouth! Anyone who could write a song like that one would surely be pleasant to talk with.

See, Joe, that's the trouble with you young folks today. Your collection of Sing Out! doesn't go back far enough! We have that issue but all it says is:

This song, by Philadelphia songwriter/singer Karl Williams, has already become something of a classic. You can hear Karl sing it on hie debut album Living At The End Of Time (GS-1949, Greene St. Records, P.O. box 29531, Philadelphia, PA 19144).

Hooray for all of your great help! I'm helping a friend track down writers/publishers for licensing forms for her first CD. She likes this song because it was the first song she sang to Matt, her second Seeing Eye Dog. I got the info from Sing OUt! (at the library per Joe Offer) and I followed Sandy Paton's suggestion and tried the "old-fashioned" telephone approach, and found 2 listings for Karl Williams in Harrisburg. ONe of them was the right one, and my friend got a very pleasant email message from him (you're right, anyone who could write such a song is a nice guy). He has a website at www.karlwilliams.com if you want to find out more about what he is doing!

So, Thanks for your great help!

Mary

No mention here of the version by Magpie, the only one I've heard to date. I believe they recorded it in '86.
