From: Kelida Just out of curiosity (which killed the cat, by the way), I'd like to run a little survey of the Mudcat to see what "kind" of people hang around here--sort of a sampling of the social make-up, so to speak. Just some general info on what kind of music people listen to/play, instruments, ages, places, etc. Mostly just so I (and everyone else, hopefully) will feel a little less of a stranger here. I guess I'll start things off. Name: Bridget McKinney; Cincinnati, Ohio; DOB: 10-xx-82; Blond hair, blue eyes, 5'7", 125; Music/Bands: Celtic folk/dance music, blues, the Happy Daggers, jazz, the Beatles, the Doors, Jethro Tull, old school punk, '80s glam metal (shamefully. . .), industrial, Bauhaus, techno/rave/jungle--pretty eclectic tastes, but mostly I like folk music; Instruments: clarinet, penny whistle, acoustic guitar, key board, fife; Reading material: Lovecraft, Moorcock, Nietzche, Kafka, Poppy Z. Brite, Whitman, pretty much anything; Most likely to be found: at school, at work, at the computer, playing clarinet, singing with my best friend; future career: graphic designer/illustrator. Falling in love with Mudcatters Mudcat (THE WORLD) Let Us Know Where You Are There are several more that are a lot of fun to read over and can certainly be refreshed. If you type in "Mudcat" in the filter box and set the date to at least two years, you will get every thread which has ever had "Mudcat" or "Mudcatters", etc. in the name. This is not to suggest you shouldn't have this thread. Most of the ones I linked are quite long, so slow loading, so a new one for additions is a good idea. Hope this helps, katlaughing |

Wasn't Mies van derRohe one of them? Or was that another school? It's been too long since my college modern architecture course. But music? I have to confess ignorance. Asia for ten lovely years.........I like all forms of music. but I reserve the right to not like some pieces. I have two masters degrees from U.C. Berkeley and 12 minors including celtic history( taught at N.Illinois U) and american history (taught at Queenstown Belfast N.I. I'm now OLD so I do not travel the road much any more I live outside Columbus Oh. on a farm near Washington C.H My group Haggis DU Jour opened the I.N.A. concert last fall |

Incidentally, it might be best if people give some inducation of where you are approximately. Mooh for eaxample says he's "a unionist", and that means one thing in Canada, and something else in other places. It's one of those words like "Republican" and "Nationalist", which can have different implications in different places. (I'm not saying all kinds of unionists aren't welcome here, but just that misunderstandings can arise). |

Unlike most of you folks, I'm not a musician but like to listen and still sing occasionally. Grew up in southeastern PA, moved to Chicago at 17, then Boston, now NYC (around the corner from the old Folk City--which is no longer there, of course...sigh). Used to sing in new wave bands in late 70's to early 80's, was a studio back-up singer off & on. Went back to college at 37 and now have a master's in forensic psychology, next fall, starting a master's degree in social work and then doctorate in criminology (I hope). I'm 43, still like to hear Anarchy in the U.K. once in a while, love blasting Mozart's Requiem so I can sing the soprano parts at the top of my lungs, scarin' the snot outta my neighbors! |
