Can you give a little more information? We know a collector of fine Vega instruments, and he would be happy to help you. But need better id. Is it five string, size of pot, inlaid, any numbers on headstock or in pot. Let me know, and i'll see what i can come up with for you

It is a five string, open back, no tone bars just a three quater by three quater wood piece that is part of the neck, calf skin, thirtynine fastener thingies, not much inlay just the dots and the star, real ebony fingerboard and headstock veneer, no numbers on headstock, 10 3/4" cross back, 11 1/16 coss front. Any info would be great thanks. Would really like to know what kind of pegs to put in to keep it original.

Thanks

bob

I suggest you ask your question of Deering (who apparently now owns Vega). You can write them at info@deeringbanjos.com - or go to their website and snoop around; see what you can see. I recently bought a brand new Vega long neck from Deering; it is a beautiful instrument!

You could also try asking in the alt.banjo newsgroup.

Vega were not the only makers to put a star on the head of their banjo's and many vega banjo's did not have a star. Vega usually stamped the name "Vega Boston Mass" on the perch pole along with the serial number , the same number was also stamped in the inside of the pot Bill

Frank at Gryphon Music should be able to help you with parts, if Deering Banjo can't. You can also do a posting at the Mandolin Cafe, in thier classified section. Will pass on your description to our local fanatic, and see what he says. I caution you, this isn't much to go on.

Hey Bob, won't be able to talk to friend until weekend, cuz he is down south. Will probably reply something like monday or tuesday. Keep an eye open.
