03 May 00 - 10:38 AM (#222185) Subject: Richard Shindell in NYC From: GUEST,From Mrbisok@aol Yesterday's NY Times gave a rave review of Shindell's Bottom Line concert given last week Thursday, like April 28. Reviewer was a NY Times regular: Ann Powers. She praised his delivery, his material and his band. She opined that, sure, maybe this was a fluke just perfect performance which hasn't always been true, she said, of Shindell. Then she wrote (I'm not quoting) "maybe he is, right now, The Best." And she carried on for some sentences about that. It's a review that any small venue guy would die for. I bet in Shindell's case, he earned it. I've been following Shindell on and off for about 8 years, but never seen him in concert. His now famous "Are you Happy Now" charmed me and dozens of students in my English classes when I was in another lifetime. With Cry Cry Cry he blended in nicely. I've heard on Radio about 3 cuts from "Just outside of Paterson." |

It then took me 2 months continuously checking Toronto's stores before I found some of his CDs. Reunion Hill really blew me away! I hope he comes up to Ontario sometime to play Rana |

03 May 00 - 08:05 PM (#222633) Subject: RE: Richard Shindell in NYC From: Margaret V He IS the best! I've been going to see him perform ever since "Sparrow's Point" and have always been entranced by him, his songs, his performance, his voice, blah blah blah, obviously I'm a fan! OK, Lincoln Center outside in the rain last year wasn't so great but those were extenuating circumstances, including umbrellas in the way of my view! I'm just sorry I wasn't aware he was performing last week. . . Really, his songwriting is extraordinary. "Everyone should listen to him," she proclaimed with great certainty. . . |

03 May 00 - 08:39 PM (#222655) Subject: RE: Richard Shindell in NYC From: Paul G. Saw Richard a few weeks ago at the Polk Theatre in Lakeland, Florida. His performance was truly flawless. Just Richard and his guitar -- lots of alternate tunings. He created quite the intimate feel in a large room. Even bantered with the audience a bit. I'm enjoying his new recording "Somewhere Near Patterson". pg |
