May 00 - 06:37 PM (#223743) Subject: Sorcha Dorcha at New Age Cabaret From: InOBU Sorcha Dorcha will be playing at the New Age Cabaret in New York City, 23 Saint Marks Place (8th street between 2nd ave and 3rd ave) on May 17 from 8 - 10. Info number is 718 809 9895. I hope we get a good turn out, as this new cafe is trying to hang on in spite of developers trying to take their building away in court. They run a homeless shelter and a Narcotics Anonimous center in the same building and the new cafe helps support those efforts. Now, for some reason, few New Yorkers seem to listen to folk music these days, or at least most Mudcatters seem to live elsewhere. SO, if you are a New York Mudcatter, and want to hear songs about highwaymen, and rogues, and good old Ceili music, come by. All the best Larry |

By the way, I am old enough to remember that the New Age Caberet was the old Electic Circus, the first real modern discotech in New York, 1968? earlier? The grey cells are going south. All the best Larry |

May 00 - 03:20 PM (#224083) Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha at New Age Cabaret From: SINSULL I still have the micromini dress I wore to the Electric Circus in 1964. My son is convinced it is a blouse and wonders where my thighs went when I wore it. I have put May 17th on my calendar. Wish I could wear the dress but that just isn't ever going to happen again. |

May 00 - 07:44 PM (#225528) Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha at New Age Cabaret From: Art Thieme I realize I mut've missed something, but what is Sorcha Dorcha---a person? a group? If he/she/it is playing a New Age place the music must be pretty laid back--so's not to wake anybody. Art Thieme |

May 00 - 11:22 PM (#225596) Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha at New Age Cabaret From: Rick Fielding Art from what I gather "laid back" would describe neither Larry's piping OR his lyrics! It's a band, and if I could I'd show you how to get to their website, but I'm still computer illiterate.(although I get to know more and more about humans everyday!) Rick |

May 00 - 07:55 AM (#225723) Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha at New Age Cabaret From: InOBU Art! Laid back! We sing a lot of Highway man songs, songs about eating children (Tom of Bedlam) and then it really get going! We sing some of my stuff about the murder of Amadou Diallo, the murder of Gysies in the Czech Republic (sorry Petr, I dont mean to get us started again!) and the forced assimilation of Canadian Natives and the theift of their land by Hydro Quebec! THEN there is the Ceile music! We have the irrepressable Mike McDonnald on fiddle, an intence musician, the mysterious Gordo Abrams on flute and mandolyn (what did he just say? the front table murmer at his rye and sometimes inappropriate comments...) the Gamin (Brigid Kaelin - no relationship to Kato)with her WONDERFUL voice... and this Uilleann Piper, who has been known to hang out with Pavees and Rom, well, laid back, I dont think so. Check back latter today, I have to update our Web page and I will hot link for you to get a look at us... Sorcha Dorcha is named after the patron saint of Irish Pavees (Travellers). All the best... Larry |
